Samsung had been planning to launch a premium entry-level smartphone with some top midrange components referred to as the Galaxy S8 Lite. The upcoming smartphone is scheduled to launch today in China, and the device will now launch with an all-new name of Galaxy S Lite Luxury Edition.

The South Korean tech giant aims to promote Galaxy S Lite Luxury Edition in the mid-range premium segment combining affordability with premium looks. Samsung has already been dethroned in India by Xiaomi as the number one smartphone brand in the country, and the company is also struggling in the global markets due to immense competition from the Chinese manufacturers.

Struggling Samsung

Samsung is struggling to hold up against the Chinese competition. The company has already lost its long-held spot in India to four-year-old Xiaomi. The company is facing immense competition from the Chinese manufacturers in the global markets as well.

The mid-range and entry-premium segment has always been a game-changer for the smartphone companies, as it helps to add volume and generate direct revenue. Samsung is facing a massive threat in the mid-range and budget category from affordable and well-manufactured Chinese smartphones.

Amidst the changing preferences of customers, Samsung had earlier promised to make a comeback and are working on a slew of affordable mid-range smartphones to take on the Chinese competition globally.

Priced at around Rs 35,000 (3000 to 3500 Yuan), the Galaxy S Lite Luxury Edition will face a direct challenge from entry-level flagships like recently launched OnePlus 6, Honor 10 and Mi MIX 2S.
