Spouses Of H-1B Visa Holders Won’t Be Allowed To Work; Will Indian Govt. Intervene Now?

US President Trump’s anti-immigrant and anti H-1B stand is now taking an interesting turn. In one of the most shocking steps, US Govt. has indicated that spouses of H-1B visa holders won’t be allowed to work.

This decision can impact thousands of Indians staying in the US.

Will Indian Govt. intervene now?

US Govt: No Work For Spouses of H-1B Visa Holders!

The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services has given strong hints that spouses of H-1B visa holders won’t be allowed to work in the US.

The case is now pending with Department of Homeland Security boss Kristjen Nielsen, and his call would be the final one. Just for information, Kristjen is known to be a Trump aide, and the decision can be against H-1B visa holders.

We had already reported that spouses of H4 visa holders will be also stopped from working in the US. The decision on not allowed spouses of H4 and H-1B visa holders were introduced after President Trump came into power.

As per reports, if this becomes a law, then around 64,000 Indian spouses of H-1B visa holders in the US will get negatively impacted. During Obama era, 71,000 Indians received H-1B visa, and out of that, 64,000 spouses are working in the US.

Surviving in the US on a single income is tough, and if spouses are not allowed to work, then it can create a major financial trouble for the Indian families living there.

Advocacy Groups are already threatening lawsuits.

Anirban Das of Skilled Immigration in America, an advocacy group said,

“If they (USCIS) change the H4 EAD rule without taking into consideration each and every comment that comes in and fail to respond to our defence of the H4 EAD, you can be sure of lawsuits”

Indian Govt. Is Disappointed; WIll Talk With The US

Union Minister Suresh Prabhu has expressed disappointment over these reports, and have assured that Indian Govt. will launch a formal dialogue with the US Govt. over this issue.

He said, “We are very disappointed by some of the actions by the US administration,”

He said that foreign workers, including those from India, have positively contributed to the overall development and progress of US.

He said,

“We have already taken up the issue with the US. We hope to take it forward by other negotiations..”

We will keep you updated, as more details emerge.
