No Commercial License Required For Auto, Taxis Now – Will This Decision Help?

In a major decision, Govt. of India has removed the requirement of a commercial license for driving autos, taxis in India.

This is a major change unleashed on The Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, which basically changes the entire structure and format of commercial driving in India.

But, the big question: Will this help?

We will soon find out.

No Commercial License For Taxis, Autos Now!

The Road Transport Ministry has issued an advisory to all State Govt. to follow this new rule for Commerce Driving: No separate Commercial License required now.

Hence, a personal driving license will be enough to drive taxis, autos now.

In fact, Supreme Court had ruled that commercial driving license will be gradually expired, way back in July 2017, which is now being implemented.

The need for Commercial Driving License is now only required for heavy vehicles such as Bus and Trucks.

Hence, taxi drivers, auto drivers, delivery boys of pizzas and other food items need not worry about commercial license anymore.

As per Ministry officials, this will end the ritual of bribes for obtaining such license.

An unnamed Ministry official said,

“This will end a lot of corruption involved in obtaining transport or commercial licences. The states must also do away with issuing badges for those driving commercial vehicles,”

But, besides corruption, this removal of the commercial license will also trigger something else: new jobs and new opportunities.

New Jobs Expected After Ban On Commercial License?

As per analysts and observers, removal of the need for a commercial license will now help the transportation industry to generate thousands of new jobs, which were not present otherwise.

Now, since the personal driving license can be used for any commercial taxi or cab; auto rickshaw and delivery jobs, more and more people can take this new opportunity.

Besides, this will also help to save the environment.

As per Uber’s new research, road congestion and traffic resulted in a loss of Rs 1.44 lakh crore in India. If the number of private vehicles comes down, and more taxis and cabs are introduced, then this massive loss can be prevented.

As per Ministry officials, one cab replaces at least 6 private cars, and an autorickshaw substitutes 12 cars, as they require less space and less fuel.

Do you think the removal of the need for a commercial license can trigger more jobs and result in less pollution in India?
