Bengaluru Is 5th Cheapest City To Live In The World; Pune Best-Governed City In India!

Two very interesting ranking of global and Indian cities have come out, and both target the livability and sustainability of these cities.

While one of the lists covers global cities, ranking them on the basis of being expensive or cheap; the other study highlights governance of Indian cities.

Bengaluru Is 5th Cheapest City In The World!

Results from Economist Intelligence Unit’s (EIU) Worldwide Cost of Living 2018 survey is out, and three Indian cities feature in the cheapest cities to live, globally.

Bengaluru is found to be the 5th cheapest city to live, whereas Chennai is at 8th and New Delhi is the 10th cheapest city.

The list of cheapest cities is topped by Syria’s capital, Damascus, whereas Venezuela’s capital, Caracas and Kazakhstan’s business centre, Almaty, are #2 and #3 position.

Lagos is at #4 position.

Karachi from Pakistan is the 6th cheapest city.

Meanwhile, Singapore has been declared as the costliest city to live, in the whole world.

Here are the most expensive cities to live in:

  1. Singapore
  2. Paris
  3. Zurich
  4. Hong Kong
  5. Oslo
  6. Geneva
  7. Seoul
  8. Copenhagen
  9. Tel Aviv
  10. Sydney

Here are the world’s cheapest cities to live in:

  1. Damascus
  2. Caracas
  3. Almaty
  4. Lagos
  5. Bengaluru
  6. Karachi
  7. Algiers
  8. Chennai
  9. Bucharest
  10. New Delhi

Pune Is The Best-Governed City In India!

Meanwhile, Annual Survey of India’s City-Systems (ASICS) was conducted by Janaagraha Centre for Citizenship and Democracy (JCCD) recently.

The survey found Pune as the best-governed city of India, due to its excellent local governance policies.

The study ranked the cities on a scale of 10, and Pune scored the maximum points: 5.3.

Pune’s municipal commissioner Kunal Kumar said,

“Our efforts to improve the financial capacity of the governing bodies and making civic services more public friendly has paid off. The surveyors have taken note of these services,”

The survey was conducted across 23 Indian cities. Here are the top 5 best-governed cities in India;

  1. Pune
  2. Kolkata
  3. Thiruvananthapuram
  4. Bhubaneswar
  5. Surat

Surprisingly, Bengaluru was ranked worst in terms of governance.

The bottom 5 cities in terms of governance are:

  1. Bengaluru
  2. Chandigarh
  3. Dehradun
  4. Patna
  5. Chennai

National Capital New Delhi improved their position from last year, and was ranked 6th.
