Why Asus ZenFone Zoom S?

With iPhones, Pixels and other high-end flagships in the market, hardly any mid-range phones stand out. The newly launched Asus ZenFone Zoom S has some neat tricks up its sleeve to challenge some of the premium flagships in the market, and even beat some of them in certain areas.

The Best Mid Range Camera Phone

The Asus ZenFone Zoom S has been marketed by the company as a camera-centric smartphone, and the smartphone features 2.3X optical zoom and two cameras at the back.

Camera Combination

The device comes with one wide-angle and one telephoto lens combination. The standard lens has a 12MP Sony IMX 362 sensor with f/1.7 aperture and gets a 4-axis Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) to help with shaky situations. The telephoto lens also has also a 12MP Sony IMX214 sensor with 2.3x optical zoom and 12x digital zoom. Up front, The ZenFone Zoom S sports a 13MP shooter with f/2.0 aperture.

Professional Photography

The camera UI features DSLR-like settings, and is smooth and easy to use. Users get multiple modes with options to adjust settings like ISO and depth of field. You can save images in RAW format, which gives the most data to work with in post-processing.

Artificial And Low Light Performance

The camera performs well under artificial light, and retains a good amount of detail with good contrast and accurate colours. The camera does a commendable job under low-light conditions. It does not show any sort of shutter lag and can capture above average images.

The Verdict: Should You Buy?

Overall, the Asus ZenFone Zoom S is powerful, reliable and performs really well in day-to-day use. The cameras are extremely good for a mid-range smartphone. The huge battery 5,000 mAh battery will last more than a day, even for heavy users.

The Zenfone Zoom S feels slightly overpriced, when you consider that the Xiaomi Mi A1 sports almost similar specifications, with the exception of a big battery. The price difference between these two phones is considerable.

That said, if you are a fan of the ZenFone series and absolutely need the mammoth battery and the dual cameras in one smartphone, then the Zenfone Zoom S is the smartphone for you.
