Airtel’s Diwali Offer: iPhone 7 For 7,777

Airtel has just launched their new online store, and the very first deal they are offering is of iPhone 7, which was launched last year.

All you need to pay right now is Rs 7,777/-, and you can get a brand new iPhone 7 (32 GB) at your doorstep.

However, this offer is bundled with Airtel’s postpaid plan which costs Rs 2,499/- per month. And the lock in period is 24 months.

This new offer at their online store is part of Airtel’s Project Next, wherein they will invest Rs 2000 crore to present sizzling online only deals. This online deal is right now available across 21 stores, and Airtel has already tied up with brands like Apple Inc, HDFC Bank, Clix Capital, Seynse Technologies, Brightstar Telecommunications and Vulcan Express for creating special offers.

Rs 7,777 for iPhone 7: Is The Deal Right For You?

Based on numbers, and logic, the answer is no. Not at this time!

And there are two main reasons:

1. The Cost.

Currently, brand new iPhone 7 is available for Rs 38,999/- on Amazon.in, which also includes EMI options. Hence, say you choose ICICI Bank for purchasing this new handset, and chose EMI option to pay back. In case you agree for 24-month EMI, then all you are paying is Rs 45,382/- for this unit, which means additional cost of Rs 6,383/- due to 15% interest.

Now, if you choose Airtel’s bundled offer, then it means you are paying: (Rs 2499 X 12)  + Rs 7,777/-, which totals to Rs 67,753/-.

Now, for Rs 2,499/-, you are getting unlimited calls and 1 GB of data per month, which is currently available for Rs 349/- on both Airtel and Jio. Assuming that the same plan would be available for next 24 months, we can deduct the same from this amount: Rs 8376/-.

Hence, for the Airtel offer, you would be paying Rs 20,378/- extra, which is quite a bit. If a customer chooses ICICI Bank EMI scheme instead of Airtel’s offer, they can clearly save Rs 20,378/- on the same unit.

2. iPhone X

The latest revolutionary iPhone X will start shipping from November 3rd, 2017. The iPhone 7 was released last year, and iPhone X has been described as the best ever iPhone yet. So, our suggestion would be to invest in the latest hardware, be it the iPhone X or one of the iPhone 8, for at least next 2-3 years of future-proofing.
