Micromax is currently the best-selling Indian smartphone brand in the Indian markets. It has always managed to wow its fan base with innovative features from time to time. And it does not disappoint with the Micromax Canvas Infinity.

This time, it’s the huge 5.7” Infinity Display which screams for attention at the front. It is the highlight, nay the reason for this smartphone’s existence, being named after the display.

Micromax have price it very competitively and in doing so, have made it a difficult task for themselves. The sub Rs. 10,000/- price point is brutally competitive and leaves no room for any mistake.

The Chinese rule this price point with the likes of Redmi 4, Lenovo Vibe K5, Coolpad Note 5 Lite and the Moto E4. It has to be pointed out here that all the above-mentioned phones are priced even lower than the Micromax Canvas Infinity.

So, what, if any, differentiating factor does the Canvas Infinity bring to the table to justify its extra cost to the buyers, over these other smartphones?

Micromax Canvas Infinity: Is Infinity Enough?

Micromax is harping on the Infinity Display as the USP of this smartphone. Much ado has been made about it being the first Indian smartphone with an infinity display and the unusual aspect ratio.

But there are some worrying aspects to the full specifications of the Micromax Canvas Infinity. First and foremost being the processor. Micromax has used the Snapdragon 425 quad-core processor clocked at 1.4GHz in this smartphone. For a smartphone featuring a huge 5.7” display, it seems highly underpowered for the job.

Then there’s the RAM. Where phones like the Coolpad Note 5 give you 4GB RAM for literally only a few rupees more, Micromax has decided to stick with 3GB RAM to accompany the under-powered processor.

The display itself feels outdated despite the modern ‘Infinity’ tag. It is a 5.7” display with a 1440 x 720 pixels resolution! Come on Micromax! At the very least, it could have been a full HD display. The competitors are offering a full HD display and that’s not even their selling point! We shudder to think how the display is going to look, once we have it in hand.

Micromax, you have dropped the ball here. The battery could have been the one saving grace here. But 2900mAh sounds lean and underpowered to drive that huge display, at least on paper.

Underpowered. That seems to be the underlying theme here. We will reserve judgement until we have a review unit in hand. But we don’t expect our initial impressions to change, based on the specifications list.

To Conclude…

The Micromax Canvas Infinity is going to be an Amazon exclusive along with some exciting launch offers. Sales are starting on 1st September 2017. With an anaemic spec-sheet like this, this phone cannot expect to sell in great numbers.

Sure, there will be people who would want to own a phone with an infinity display like some very expensive flagships. To such people, the other specifications probably won’t matter.

At least on paper, this smartphone fails to impress and incite that wow feeling. Still, we would give this one a fair chance to prove itself worthy.

Who knows? Maybe we’re in for a happy surprise!
