Instagram Copies Snapchat Again; Brings Photo Filters & ‘Rewind’ Video Capability

Instagram has been copying Snapchat for a while now, first with disappearing photos and videos, live video and then Instagram story. The company also introduced stickers like those in Snapchat, to make the stories more interesting and interactive.

Now, Instagram has copied Snapchat again with face filters. This was more or less expected because the users themselves had been requesting for these filters. It goes without saying that these filters remind us a lot about Snapchat filters.

“From math equations swirling around your head to furry koala ears that move and twitch, you can transform into a variety of characters that make you smile or laugh. To see our initial set of eight face filters, simply open the camera and tap the new face icon in the bottom right corner,” says the company.

What all is new?

In the new update available on the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store, you should be able to see a new icon on the bottom right. Click on it to apply filters to your photo. You get a lot of recommendations, and you can take a photo or a video and apply these masks.

The best part is that these filters work even on Boomerang. You can just add these to your story or direct message to your friends. The filters look like flower garland on your head, a strange ring around the head, math equations in the air or just glasses on your face.

Another interesting addition to the Instagram stories is the ‘Rewind button’. This has also been available in Snapchat for very long, except not as a button. You can make videos that play in reverse with “Rewind,” a new camera format next to “Boomerang” and “Hands-Free.”

A lot of cool stories and videos can be made using Rewind feature, especially by people trying to create new video ideas. Instagram has become a one-stop shop for anyone trying to get big on the social media.

Lastly, you’ll see a new eraser brush when using drawing tools. You can erase other things you’ve drawn and play around with removing color. After you’ve taken a photo or video, select a drawing tool and tap and hold to fill the entire screen with color. Then, using the eraser brush, you can creatively reveal parts of your photo or video underneath.

This is a very cool new feature for brands to showcase their products, or companies to release teasers. Instagram has outdone Snapchat in being Snapchat. Now, more and more people will actually flock to Instagram considering the wide acceptance and the growth in the last couple of years.

Try the new filters and tools from Instagram and let us know if think they’re better than the ones on Snapchat.
