SRT.Phone

Smartron, a Hyderabad-based technology startup has launched its Sachin Tendulkar branded phone, the “srt.phone”, at a press event in New Delhi today.

Going by its naming convention followed in its earlier smartphone, the “t.phone”, the company has aptly named it as srt.phone. Here “srt” stands for Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar, the cricketing legend, who is one of the investors in the country.

The srt.phone comes in two memory variants- 32 GB and 64 GB carrying price tags of Rs. 12,999 and Rs. 13,999 respectively. It is currently exclusively available on Flipkart.

Smartron srt.phone Specifications

The srt.phone packs a decent hardware for its asking price including 4 GB RAM, 13 MP and 5 MP camera combo, octa-core chip, and a 3000 mAh battery supporting fast charging 2.0.

Design & Features

The srt.phone has pretty good aesthetics for its asking price. The phone has a plastic removable back, rounded corners, curved edges, and flanks volume rocker on the right side. The power button and the 3.5 mm audio jack are located at the top.

The fingerprint scanner is embedded at the back since the phone doesn’t have a physical home button at the front.

The srt.phone will be exclusively available on Flipkart and is bundled with launch offers like free back covers and Rs. 1,500 exchange offer for your older phone.

The company is also promising at least 2-3 major software updates to the phone. This will help the phone stay relevant on the software side for at least 2 years.

Now, since the phone is targeted at the budget segment, let us quickly compare its hardware to one of the best phones in this category out there, the Redmi Note 4.

The Redmi Note 4 packs Snapdragon 625 octa-core SoC, 4 GB RAM, 64 GB ROM, 13 MP f/2.0 rear camera with PDAF and dual-tone dual-LED flash, 5 MP front selfie camera, Android Nougat based MIUI 8.2, Infra port (but misses the NFC support), rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, and a 4010 mAh battery.

Unlike the t.phone, the srt.phone does not look unimpressive when compared to the competition, which is a good thing. We cannot comment on its hardware and camera performance as of now, but the phone has to beat the likes of Redmi Note 4, which will not be an easy feat.

Smartron went wrong with the pricing of t.phone last year and priced at Rs. 22,999. We had hands-on with the t.phone and did not find it worth the asking price.

Hopefully, the srt.phone will not let us down and will stand true to its expectations.
