Vivo Introduces IPL Themed Limited Edition V5 Plus Smartphone; Will Die-Hard IPL Fan Go For It?

Vivo, which is the official sponsor of the 10th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket tournament, has decided to launch an IPL centric smartphone, in a limited edition model.

Vivo V5 Plus, which was actually launched in the month of January, has now been re-launched in a new avatar, embedding IPL elements in an innovative manner.

Synchronised with the inauguration ceremony of IPL – 2017 in Hyderabad, this limited edition IPL focussed smartphone was launched in Hyderabad itself, in the presence of senior BCCI official and Bollywood actress Soha Ali Khan.

The Matte black handset has already garnered attention with its highly sophisticated 20 megapixels dual front, along with their ‘Moon Glow’ flash, which has highlighted in their marketing campaigns.

There are two major inclusions in this limited edition version of V5 Plus smartphone, which Vivo has exclusively arranged for the die-hard IPL fan:

a) A Vivo IPL Logo is engraved into the body of the smartphone, at the backside

b) All icons visible in the phone are designed based on IPL concepts; an example being icons of the call button, SMS folder, gallery etc. Thus, every time the IPL fan unlocks this phone, exclusive IPL themed logos and designs will welcome him.

Sports themed smartphones is a new concept, which is now being increasingly used by various brands to attract fans of particular sports. Last year, Samsung had launched Olympics-themed smartphones which gained much attention and curiosity among sports fans.

Vivek Zhang, CMO, Vivo India, explained the thinking process behind this special edition launch of their smartphone: “The idea behind the launch of limited edition phone was to offer our consumers with not just the phone but an experience they can cherish for a lifetime.”

Vivo is now attempting to initiate such similar campaigns in India, and what better opportunity can it be, other than IPL, which is the biggest sports event in India. In a way, Vivo is smartly leveraging their position as the official sponsors of IPL’s 10th edition, and it may set a new benchmark in Indian smartphone market.

This IPL themed limited edition V5 Plus smartphone would be available to buy effective April 10th, and its price would be also declared on that same day.
