Vodafone India is Possible Talks of Merger with Reliance Jio or Idea Cellular: Telegraph

A few days back there were rumors about a possible Vodafone-Jio or Vodafone-Idea merger, which were later denied by Reliance Jio. Vodafone has been on a 4G data pack launching spree and the latest one is 4 GB 4G data at just Rs. 250.

“Our customers are consuming more of content and video online. With these super rich data packs, our rapidly growing base of 4G customers across 17 circles can enjoy much more of mobile internet while remaining confidently connected on Vodafone SuperNetTM 4G. It will also encourage first time and limited users of mobile internet to explore more by providing greater value. They can access four times more of their favorite content online for the same cost in a truly worry free manner,” said Sandeep Kataria, Chief Commercial Officer, Vodafone India.

Vodafone Is Serious About 4G Data Wars

Last week, Vodafone India announced unlimited 3G/4G data for 1 hour at just Rs. 16 along with unlimited on-net (Vodafone to Vodafone) calling at just Rs. 7/hour. With this latest announcement, Vodafone is offering 4 times the 4G data on Rs. 250 pack which earlier offered just 1 GB 4G data for 28 days.

Vodafone has also revised other packs to offer more data benefits however the “4x data” moniker is limited to just Rs. 250 data pack. Rs. 999 data pack which earlier offered 10 GB 4G data for 28 days would now offer 22 GB 4G data having same validity.

These refreshed data packs are available via offline and online channels across all telecom circles where Vodafone offers its 4G services. Vodafone has also tweaked Rs. 150 pack to offer 1 GB data, Rs. 350 pack to provide 6 GB data, whereas 9 GB data can be subscribed via Rs. 450 pack.

Other plans offering very high volume of data are Rs. 650 pack- 13 GB, and Rs. 1500 pack offering 35 GB 4G data.

Cost (Rs.) Data Benefits
150 1 GB
250 4 GB
350 6 GB
450 9 GB
650 13 GB
999 22 GB
1,500 35 GB

Vodafone Is Taking The Game To A New Level

Back in December 2016, when every telecom operator was launching unlimited voice and data combo packs, Vodafone was a little late to the party, and its unlimited voice and data packs were not so distinguishable from Airtel and Idea, but this time around the India’s #2 telecom operator is showing true signs of a good “challenger” to the market leader.

With this newly revised plans on its side, Vodafone has sufficient firepower to fend off the competition in its 4G circles. However, it is worth noting Vodafone’s 4G footprint is not as large as even that of Airtel. So it might not be able to gain a good number of subscribers only by offering more 4G data. Further, it is fact that in price wars, the competitors almost always strike back with similar offerings.

So, now it is just a matter of time when Airtel and Idea announce similar data packs offering more data than ever before. The telecom wars are heating up in India among the incumbents. Reliance Jio might also take a hint from it and revise its VoLTE tariff plans accordingly post the expiry of its ‘Happy New Year Offer’, provided it is not forced to pull back its promo offer by TRAI.
