BSNL To Provide New Connections Via e-KYC; No Need For Physical Documents Anymore!

In yet another indication of how the state-led telecom operator- BSNL is coping with the digitisation process, it will now provide connection to its prospective customers via e-KYC process.

Many others telcos in India are already providing mobile connections via the e-KYC route (e-Aadhaar verification). e-KYC not only makes the process of getting a new connection simple but also saves a lot of time. Typically you can get a new connection with the e-KYC process in a couple of minutes.

All that is needed is your Aadhaar number and your physical presence for verifying your fingerprint with the Aadhaar database.

“There will no longer be need to produce photocopies of identity proofs and photographs. The customer’s Aadhaar number and biometric impression will be taken, and if they match, all information will be collected from the Aadhaar database. The whole process takes only a few seconds,” said KL Jairam, District General Manager at BSNL Mysuru.

BSNL, in a twitter update last week, mentioned that it has already been rolled out in Maharashtra.

BSNL is also working hard for extending its optical fibre network services to its customers. The OFC (Optical Fibre Cable) network offers high speed internet connectivity ranging from 256 Kbps to 100 Mbps as mentioned on BSNL official website.

“In Mysuru, about 2,500 customers currently have optical fibre connections (OFC). In Mysuru and Chamarajnagar, around 354-gram panchayat have high-speed internet connection with OFC, and another 44 are identified for new connections,” said Jairam.

BSNL is installing 7 Wi-Fi hotspots in and around Mysuru palace, which is a major tourist destination. This will be the second BSNL Wi-Fi zone after the Mysuru Zoo.

BSNL has also replaced its “New Amogh” plan with “Apoorva” prepaid plan for those who are porting to BSNL from other telecom networks. The Apoorva plan offers 50 MB 3G data along with 30 Local/STD minutes for a validity of 180 days.

Post the free benefits the users will be charged 38p/min for Local/STD calls to BSNL network and 48p/min to all calls outside BSNL network. All SMSs would be charged at 25p/SMS. The users opting for this plan would also get full talk time on top-ups of Rs. 500, Rs. 1,100, Rs. 1,500, Rs. 2,000, Rs. 2,500, and Rs. 3,000.

The Apoorva plan is already open for new BSNL subscribers and would further be available till 21 January 2017.
