Online Festive Sales: Amazon, Flipkart, Snapdeal Claim Massive Sales Volumes ; Assocham Says Rs 25k Cr Would Be Spent Online

 

Indian ecommerce is right now immersed in the colors of festive sales; and as per preliminary reports coming in from various sources, every major ecommerce portal has received bumper traffic and eyeballs.

Amazon, Flipkart, Snapdeal and Shopclues, the 4 major ecommerce portals are right now aggressively marketing their products under their respective festive day sales programs; and the response has been overwhelming to say the least.

Rs 25,000 Crore Online Sales This Festival Season

As per a research by Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham), Indians would be spending close to Rs 25,000 crore on various ecommerce portals during the festive day sales.The research was conducted on 2500 professionals from various backgrounds, located at 10 major Indian cities.

As per the finding of the research, 60% of the respondents will shop online this festival season, and they are ready with their list.

Last year, Rs 20,000 crore was spent online during festival season. Thus, the industry would be witnessing 25% jump in the overall online shopping.

As per the report, searches related to online shopping has increased substantially from states like Tripura, Sikkim, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Andaman and Nicobar Islands in the last 7 days; and maximum shopping on ecommerce portals is expected from Tier 2 / 3 cities this year.

Flipkart Is Targeting Sales Of Rs 3300 Crore

Flipkart’s Big Billion Day Sales started on October 2nd, and would end on October 6th. As per the massive response received, Flipkart is aiming for sales of Rs 3300 crore in these 5 days.

Flipkart + Myntra sold 2.25 million units of various products within the first 12 hours of the sales, as per a press release by the company.

As per another report, Flipkart managed to sell a record number of electronics items, especially LED TVs. As per another press release, Flipkart sold more LCDs with screen-size of minimum 40 inches within the first 12 hours, compared to total number of TVs sold in last year’s festive season.

As per Kalyan Krishnamurthy , head, category design organisation, Flipkart sold more units in the first 6 hours of the 1st day, compared to total products sold on Day 1 last year.

And, the number of Apple Watches sold in the first 10 minutes was more than total sales of Apple Watch in the last month.

Amazon Records Bumper Sales With 1 Billion Hits In First 12 Hours

Meanwhile Amazon is offering heavy sales across home and lifestyle categories, besides matching discounts on electronics and smartphones. Discounts upto 35% have been offered for products such as washing powder and diapers.

Manish Tiwary, vice-president of category management at Amazon said that grocery and apparels accounted for maximum sales volume on Day 1 of their Great Indian Festival, which started on October 1st, and will go on till October 5th. Smartphones was at #1 product on Day 1, in terms of gross merchandise sales.

As per Amazon, they recorded three times sales volume this year on Day 1, compared to last year’s festive sales; in fact, the first 12 hours recorded 1 billion hits on Amazon India’s website.

As per another estimate, Amazon clocked 100,000 units of sales within the first 30 minutes of their Day 1; and by the first-half of Day 1, they had received more traffic than all 5 days combined from last year.

20 Lakh Hits On Snapdeal Within First Hour

Snapdeal is refusing to accept defeat infront of Amazon and Flipkart, as their Unbox Diwali Sale started on October 2nd, and will go on till October 6th.

As per a press release by Snapdeal, they recorded massive 20 lakh hits within the first hour of Day 1, products from categories such as personal electronics, appliances, furniture and mobiles were sold like hot cakes as their portal received 700,000 hits within the first 5 minutes.

As per available data released by Snapdeal, nearly 1 lakh mobiles were sold in the first 8 hours, which translates to 200 mobile per minute.

Snapdeal is currently offering massive discounts upto 50-80% on fashion and lifestyle products and 5-10% on electronics and smartphones.
