Finally the much awaited Xiaomi laptop is here, and as expected it looks every similar to Apple MacBook range of notebook computers. In fact, this Windows 10 running is even named Mi Notebook Air which is very similar to the entry-level MacBook series, MacBook Air. Mi Notebook Air starts at Yuan 3,499 (Rs. 35,200 approx.)

Mi Notebook Air Specifications
Mi Notebook Air comes in 2 variants- 13.3-inch and 12.5-inch, both featuring a slim profile, full HD display with slim under-glass bezels, 1 MP webcam, backlit keypad, USB type-C charging port, an HDMI port, and come in gold and silver colour option.
Mi Notebook Air feature a very minimalist design and even has no branding logo on the outside, except a small ‘Mi’ logo at the bottom of the display.
Mi Notebook Air 13.3-inch
The 13.3-inch model priced at Yuan 4,999 (Rs. 50,300 approx.) is more powerful than the 12.5-inch model as it runs on Intel Core i5 6200U Skylake-U processor (2.3 GHz dual, turbo up to 2.7 GHz) and is coupled with an Nvidia GeForce 940MX GPU having 1 GB GDDR5 RAM.
It also has 8 GB DDR4 RAM, 256 GB SSD, 2 USB 3.0 ports, along with one free SATA slot (upgradable only by Xiaomi), and has a 40 Wh battery that provides a battery backup of up to 9.5 hours. Mi Notebook Air 13.3-inch weighs 1.28 kg.
Mi Notebook Air 12.5-inch
The 12.5-inch carries a price tag of Rs. 35,200 approx., measures 12.9 mm and tips the weighing scale at just 1.07 kg. It is packed with only 4 GB of RAM, 128 GB SSD, Intel Core M3 processor, 1 USB 3.0 port, and has no dedicated GPU chip. On the positive side, it also comes with free one SATA slot just like its higher-end model, but again that slot can only be serviced by Xiaomi.
This 12.5-inch Mi Notebook Air has better battery backup than the 13.3-inch model and gives battery backup of up to 11.5 hours.
Global Release Date
Both the notebook are made by Tian Mi, Xiaomi’s partner, as reported by CNET. These Mi laptops would be available in China from 2 August, with no information about their global launch.
This is a very bold move from Xiaomi, considering the fact that the global laptop is expected to shrink at 9.3% this year, while Xiaomi’s home consumer laptop market in China would shrink by even steeper 10.4%, according to Bryan Ma, IDC Analyst.
It would be interesting to note how many units of Mi Notebook Air Xiaomi manages to ship this year. One thing is sure though, Xiaomi would do anything it can do steal the market share from others, be it portable LED, or router, or anything.
