Tinder, popular dating service, is very famous in India and likewise, Tinder considers India as its largest market in Asia. Dating culture is relatively new in India, but has been picking up pace in the younger generation, particularly 19-25 year olds. It is killing the age-old match-makers like Shaadi.com and Bharat Matrimony.
The company is moving forward with a new service that aims to help people socialize, called the Tinder Social. Just as the name suggests, Tinder users can create groups, meet up and plan activities together. There is already an alternative for this, a service called ‘Meetup’, but it is not as popular amongst its users here.
Tinder Social is more casual as compared to Meetup though, and allows people to add others to the groups to plan an event together. This activity can range from adventure sports, partying, brunching, photography to pursuing common interests.
Sean Rad, CEO and co-founder of Tinder, in a statement, said, “Tinder Social is designed to make it as easy as possible to plan your night, get out into the real world and meet new people. The new feature takes the Tinder experience to a new level, offering our users more ways to expand their social circles and interact with potential matches.”
Imagine it to be like a WhatsApp group with friends and stranger both, allowing to expand your social circle and meet more people around you.
Will users appreciate this service?
Let’s be honest, a lot of Indians cities, excluding the larger ones, do not have a dating culture, and while a third of Tinder’s users come from these smaller cities, the full potential hasn’t been unleashed yet. The culture in India isn’t very comfortable for such a service either.
In spite of such roadblocks, Tinder has been appreciated by Indians and a lot of match-making is happening on the platform. Tinder Social intends to make dates a little less awkward by involving more than two people in something fun. No more is Tinder only about dating, hookups and flings.
Imagine meeting up with people who share common interests as you, or love to do activities you are interested in, this is exactly what Tinder Social will allow users to do. Common meetups are at a very nascent stage in India and this platform is taking advantage of this fact.
