ixigo, one of the leading travel search engine, today announced launch of ixigo 1-Tap Cab Booking feature on ixigo Cabs app. The app has first-of-its-kind feature that allows users to books cabs from the app even if they do not have internet or GPS available.
Commuters regularly face problems with internet while booking cabs when they are traveling across states or cities, or in places where Internet signal is weak. The 1-Tap feature of ixigo Cabs app is sure to help in such scenarios.
ixigo cabs is currently one of the largest meta-aggregator of cabs in India, autos and ground transportation services and has tie-ups with multiple app-based cab providers such as Ola, TaxiForSure, EasyCabs, Jugnoo etc.
The Intelligence behind 1-Tap
ixigo claims that the app uses combination of intelligence about the user’s location through existing PNR confirmations on a user’s phone and SMSes for when the internet connection doesn’t work to seamlessly book a cab for the user. ixigo cabs app also intelligently prompts the users prior to their journey to the station or airport and also when they have just landed or are about to reach their destination.
When user installs the app for the first time on their phones, the apps seems to take permission to access your SMSes among other things. This enables them to understand the location of user by reading their previous SMSes.
Apart from SMSes, the app also relies on various other heuristics including last booked locations, home/work location (if set), tower locations from operator, last known location etc. In majority of cases, this is enough for the app to know the user location and accordingly book the cab.
To activate 1-tap on ixigo cabs, the user just needs to activate the option from the menu, which then creates a icon on smartphone’s home screen. The icon needs to be long-pressed by user to complete the booking. ixigo cabs app will find the nearest cab from one of the partner operators and confirm the booking.
