How Smartphones Have Drastically Changed in Just a Year!
The year 2015 witnessed some of the biggest changes in the world of technology. And when it comes to technology, I can’t help but think about our beloved smartphones.
The smartphones, especially the flagship phones reached an entire new level. We saw a lot of new technologies and features becoming mainstream which were only present in a few phones in the year 2014.
Now let’s take a look at some of emerging technologies in the smartphone world that were present in the 2015 flagship phones.
1. Fingerprint scanner
Use of fingerprint for unlocking your smartphones featured some time back, but it became a must have feature in all the flagship phones from every major manufacturer in the year 2015.
Some of the current crop of flagship phones which feature the use of fingerprint scanning are Apple iPhone 6s, Samsung Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, LG G4, HTC One M9+, and many more.
2. 3D Touch
The 3D touch technology featured first in Apple iPhone 6s & allowed users to assign various shortcuts and do cool stuff on their iPhones just by applying different amount of pressures on the touchscreen.
Well, this technology would feature in the next generation of Samsung and Xiaomi phones. Another popular phone maker, Huawei has already launched Huawei Mate S featuring force touch technology.
Though OIS (optical image stabilization) is not a big deal now, the technology was adopted by a lot of popular manufacturers back in 2015. Implementation of OIS not only results in blur-free images, it also results in better low-light photography.
Some of the latest phones with OIS are Samsung Galaxy S6 and its siblings, Apple iPhone 6s Plus, OnePlus 2, and many more.
4. Very High Resolution Display
LG G3 was the first phone to be launched sporting a quad-HD or a 2K display back in the summers of 2014. We have come a long way since then. The year 2015 was the year of phones with high-resolution displays.
We not only saw major OEMs adopting the 2K display technology on their flagship devices, but we also witnessed the launch of some phones with a full-fledged Ultra-HD or 4K display (read Sony Xperia Z5 Premium).
This year’s flagship phones would come sporting either a 2K or 4K display.
5. USB Type C
USB Type-C is the first USB standard to come with reversible interface and is also much after the previous generation of USB standards. Some of the popular phones supporting USB Type C are OnePlus 2, LG Nexus 5X, Huawei Nexus 6P, Xiaomi Mi4C, Lumia 950 and 950 XL, and Gionee S Plus.
6. 3 GB RAM Became The Norm
Gone are the days when 2GB RAM was considered more than enough for doing heavy multi-tasking on a phone.
While these 6 technology can be found in the current crop of flagship phones. These are the future of the smartphone world and will make their way to mid-range phones soon, followed by entry-level phones a few years down the line.
