Motorola Shuns Flipkart Exclusivity. Moto Phones Now Available on Amazon, Snapdeal & Offline Stores!

Moto G3 Detailed Review: A Well Built Phone, With Some Let-Downs

Motorola’s Moto G created history and set a trend in India debuting online-only Smartphone sales model in India. Other Smartphone Brands like Xiaomi have adopted the same online-only model quite successfully and their phones have become an instant hit in India.

Since Motorola’s re-entry into India with Moto G, the brand has been sold exclusively on Flipkart portal. Moto phones were not available anywhere else. But now, Motorola has decided to spread it’s wings and give Indian buyers more channels to buy Moto phones.

Indian consumers will now be able to buy Moto smartphones from a wider range of offline and online retailers through our distribution partner Brightstar India. In a press release sent to us, Motorola has said, “For the very first time, since the introduction of the Moto E in 2014, consumers who prefer walking into a store to buy their smartphones will be able to pick the Moto E 4G LTE off the shelf at select Airtel stores across the country. At the same time, continuing with the focus on our growing community of e-shoppers, Amazon India and Snapdeal will also start offering the Moto E 3G/4G LTE, September 25 onwards.”

Why Offline Push?

Even with online-only Flipkart exclusive model, Moto G phone has sold in big numbers and was one of the top 5 most popular smartphone of 2014. Motorola’s other models Moto E and Moto X have also met with good success thanks to their sturdy build quality and excellent specifications at affordable price point. However, after arrival of Xiaomi and other Chinese brands in India, Moto phones demand has reduced to some extent in 2015. Their Moto G (3rd Gen), which was launched recently has not been able to replicate the same success as it’s predecessor.

With fierce competition from Chinese brands, Motorola needed to bring more avenues for consumers to buy Moto phones – and that’s why they are now opening up other sales channels as well!

Amit Boni, General Manager, Motorola Mobility India said, “Responding to growing demand from our consumers we have made a strategic move of increasing the availability of our portfolio across offline and multiple online shopping platforms. To start off, we will be available at select stores for our consumers to experience and purchase the device. Consumers are at the heart of whatever we do and we will leave no stone unturned to enhance their buying experiences.”

In our view this is good move by Motorola – this offline push should definitely push up Moto smartphone sales in coming days!
