Earlier this month, we had reported that Government of India is planning to impose a complete ban on pornographic websites, and talks are on with ISPs to implement the same. The government argues that porn is a bad influence on our culture, and we may become corrupt due to easy access of such content on the internet. Those against porn are stating that violence and harassment against women is increasing due to porn.
We had argued that it’s not the porn but the mindset which needs a change.
Pornhub, which is considered as one of the most visited pornographic website, with claims of being “the largest pornography site on the internet” (as per Wiki), shared India specific data related to porn consumption and habits. The data was collected for the period September 2013 – September 2014, and the results may shock those advocating complete ban on porn.

Indians spend 8.22 minutes on the website, per session. (8.9 minutes per session is the global average)
How many pages are accessed in one visit?
An Indian will open 7.32 pages of Pornhub in one single visit, whereas 7.6 pages globally. Mizoram tops this chart with 8.47 pages per visit, whereas Delhi is at #2 with 8.02 pages per visit. (Pornhub collected data from 22 Indian states)
When do Indians watch porn?
Saturday is the most preferred day for Indians to watch porn; whereas it’s Monday globally. Sunday is the least active day for Indians who watch porn. Diwali results in a dip of 35.86% traffic, whereas Dussera results in dip of 30%. It seems Indians don’t watch porn on festivals and on Sunday.

The report proves one fact very clearly: Indians love porn. In fact, as per the observations made by them, India is currently ranked #5 in overall traffic to their websites, with USA ranking at #1 with 40% traffic.
