This is becoming all too common now, Times Internet is bringing yet another international publication to India. This time it is uber-popular all-in-one news site, The Huffington Post.

Just couple of weeks back they had announced partnership with Advertising Age. While the press release sent to us did not explicitly mention it, partnership with Huffington Post is part of their Times Local Partners (TLP), a business unit of Times of India group that was developed in 2013. TLP partners with emerging global digital businesses to build local partnerships. Apart from Huffington Post, TLP has already partnered with 10 internal publications and media houses.

TLP Partnerships till date

  1. Advertising Age
  2. Business Insider
  3. IGN (Ziff Davis )
  4. Ask Men
  5. Gizmodo
  6. Lifehacker
  7. TechRadar
  8. Remodelista
  9. ReadWrite
  10. Pursuitst

Exact date for the launch of Huffington Post India edition has not been announced, it will happen sometime later this year. The editorial team will be jointly established by Huffington Post and Times of India group.

The site is expected to be either on huffingtonpost.in or huffingtonpost.co.in – Both the domains currently are password protected, so there is definitely some development work happening at the backend. We checked the domain registration information, and it belongs to Huffington Post.

CEO Speak

In regards to the partnership, Arianna Huffington, President and Editor-in-Chief of the Huffington Post Media Group said, “I’m delighted to launch HuffPost India, which will be our 12th edition since we began our international expansion three years ago. In addition to being a hub for global news and a country that embodies much of the ancient wisdom the world desperately needs now, India has deep personal significance to me. When I was 17, I studied comparative religion at Visva-Bharati University, outside of Calcutta, and traveled across India, falling in love with the country — a love affair that has continued to this day. So I’m extremely grateful for the chance to bring HuffPost to India to tell the stories that matter most — and just as important, to help people throughout India tell their stories themselves, in words, in pictures and in video.”

Satyan Gajwani, CEO of Times Internet (TIL) said, “The Huffington Post is the first real digital-first news success story globally, and their impact is seen across the world. They’ve coupled a best-in-class technology platform with a fresh way of approaching the world’s issues today. We’ve demonstrated our ability to meaningfully grow international media brands, such as Business Insider, Gizmodo, and more. We are excited to combine HuffPost’s world-class product with our local reach with consumers and advertisers to tailor-make a great new destination for Indian consumers.”

We have said this earlier – while we are happy with so many International publications coming to India, we just hope they have unique and fresh Indian content, rather than rehashing the content that appears on the parent site!
