It’s amazing how Amazon India has been able to grow their product categories so frequently. Since they launched in July last year, Amazon has added over 15 new categories taking the total tally to 20 categories.

The new category to get added to the list is Sports, Fitness & Outdoor Equipment Store. Just 2 weeks back, Amazon had added Branded Handbags and Luggage store to their ever growing list.

According to the press release, the Sports, Fitness and Outdoors Store has a selection of over 8,500 products across several sports, fitness and outdoor activities, from cricket to badminton to hiking to cycling to fitness, and everything in-between.

Amit Agarwal, Vice President and Country Manager of Amazon India said in regards to the launch,”In this fast paced life, consumers in India are increasingly looking to make sports, fitness regimes or outdoor activities as an integral part of their lifestyles. Our goal is to offer customers easy access with great prices to the widest range of sports and fitness gear and support the interests of everyone from weekend warriors to sports enthusiasts by providing them with a convenient, reliable and trustworthy shopping experience anytime, anywhere,”.

With this launch, Amazon India now has every major category except Apparels and Shoes. And from what we gather, those two categories will also be launched shortly. It is expected that Amazon India will launch Apparels & lifestyle section in a major way in coming months.

With the launch of this new store, Amazon.in now has a selection of over 15 million products across 20 product categories. Amazon’s guaranteed next-day delivery service at Rs. 99 per order is now available on more than 165,000 products.

As far as the competition goes, Flipkart and Myntra are still leading Amazon in terms of traffic. But, Amazon’s growth in India over last few months has been quite meteoric.  According to SimilarWeb estimates, Amazon India gets close to 20 million monthly visitors, compared to 30 million of Myntra and 60 million of Flipkart.
