Trak.in has received press release from Arise India, according to which Star Sports is no longer title sponsors of Asia Cup – 2014.
The tournament will now be called “Arise Asia Cup 2014”
After this new development, Star Sports will only be the broadcast and have ground sponsorship rights of Asia Cup 2014, which is starting from February 25, 2014 in Bangladesh. All major Asian teams such as India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan will compete 11 One Day Internationals, thereby competing against each other atleast once. The final would be played on March 8, 2014.
Mr. Avinash Jain, Managing Director of Arise India Ltd, said, “We all know the strong emotional connect that Cricket has with us Indians & the Asia Pacific. It is thus to support the greater thrust of the sport that we have decided to be the Title Sponsor of the upcoming Asia Cup. This tournament is known for witnessing the most competitive cricket in the sub-continent, and herein with our association with the event, we seek to create an even stronger audience connect for the brand.”
Interestingly, Nitin Kukreja, Head of Sports Business, Star India, said, “We are delighted to have Arise India as the title sponsor of Asia Cup 2014. The tournament is getting interesting traction from the advertising fraternity. We are focusing on monetizing the on-air sales while we have partnered with Technology Frontiers to focus on Asia Cup 2014 Ground Sponsorship management.”
Last time, Asia Cup was held in Sri Lanka, and Micromax was the title sponsor.
Asia Cup first started in the year 1983, when Asia Cricket Council was formed. The first tournament was held in Dubai, and right from the start, the idea was to play One Day Internationals between Asian cricket team. It is held every two years.
