If the World Comprised of 100 people…[Infographic]

Currently the world population is over 7 billion people and is expected to reach to around 10 billion by 2050. Those are real big numbers… but, what if you needed to know the composition and make up of world population on various aspects?

So, lets look at same world of 7 billion people condensed to just 100 people.

The following Infographic is designed by Jack Hagley, a London based graphic designer that wonderfully presents the world if it was made up of 100 people. The Infographic presents composition of the world population based on 9 different aspects, namely – Gender, Age, Religion, Literacy, Information, Nutrition, Water availability, Housing, Language and continents.

I was surprised by couple of points – One is that Bengali population in the world is quite huge. It is equal to Hindi or Arabic speaking people and 4th highest in the world after Chinese, Spanish and English. Another interesting aspect was that 22 percent of the world population has access to computers, that means over 1.5 billion people in the world currently access computers (For me that is quite a big number, was not expecting it)

If there are 12% Chinese, then adding up Indian languages should be approximately 12% considering 1 billion+ population of China & India. But Hindi + Bengali comes to only 6%. Tamil is missing, spoken in many nations India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, etc. Maybe the Indian speakers are split up between the multiple languages we speak in India and absorbed in the 62% Other.

China’s population is around 1.5 bln about 300 million more than India. I agree that I had assumed Tamil would have far more population then Bengali, even if you count Bangladesh…

  2. Altaf says

The infographic is a pure % presentation of data. They showed 9 different criteria under which whole world population falls in % terms.

Had the world had only 100 people, each one would have had more than a million homes, let alone not having shelter.
Access to water ? Those 100 would have divided the top 100 rivers and had a river to each and left other smaller rivers flow untouched.
Now I can not stop drooling about how much gold each would have had if there were only 100 people.

If I had a choice to select the 100 people, I would make sure George Bush never existed in first place but certainly would have selected myself, Cindy Crawford, Sridevi, Samantha Fox, Sonali Bendre in the first list.
Second, Third lists would have been released soon after I got my head cleared of them.

    Just my two paisa :)

87 have access to safe drinking water? That needs questioning. A significant part of India, China and Africa have no access to drinking water let alone safe drinking water. As for Bengali, i think they have clubbed Bangladesh too in it.
