Apple, though sitting on piles of cash, seems to be quite desperate with its brand value taking a dip in recent times. All the decisions in past 12 months or so point to that.
Now, according to report in Huffington Post, iPhone 6 is rumored to come out in different color variation similar to Nokia Lumia (the colorful handsets of Lumia have been talk of town for quite some time now). See the purported screenshot that Huffington Post has released.
Now, I do not have anything against dressing up smartphones in bright colours, but when it Apple does it, it needs to be looked at closely.
Apple is known for its innovation, the user friendliness, its eliteness, its high-handedness and other traits that will generally be associated with a brand that is supremely confident about itself and its products.
But if the rumours of colorful iPhone are true, for me personally, it does not fit the image of Apple that I have. Infact, not only this one, but decisions like coming up with a smaller, cheaper iPad, offering iPhone in installments and other similar things are slowly making Apple a generic brand rather than one which is enviable to masses and darling of the elite.
Don’t get me wrong, these may be the right business decisions, but from brand perspective I think they are further bringing down the brand value of Apple.
