Top 10 Indian Twitter Trends of the week!


We are back with the top twitter trends for this week. While #coalgate continues to remain in the top list for the third consecutive week, other topics that feature in this week’s top list are the Yuvraj’s comeback to international cricket, the Visa agreement between India and Pakistan, the Mumbai rains, among others.

1. #mumbairains

Every year, we witness heavy rains in the India’s financial capital around this time of the year. The rain gods have continued the trend this year as well, as heavy rains made a much needed comeback in Mumbai for the past few days. The city saw water logging up to 2 feet level at some areas of the city, and even witnessed a landslide.

2. #VMA

MTV’s ‘Most shared Video’ was in the top 10 list last week, and it continues to be here this week as well. Twitterati’s discussed the event using the hash tag #VMA.

3. #coalgate & 4. Parliament

For the third week in a row, the coal block allocation matter remained in the talks and #coalgate and #parliament was used most prominently for this. After a wasted monsoon session, and both BJP and Congress gearing up to take the issue on the roads, and Social Media folks have joined the fun as well.

5. #englisheddialogues

This was yet another hash tag that user’s made use of to make for a jolly time. Hindi dialogues were translated into English using this hash tag.

A very interesting tweet read…. “Laughing, laughing, roads get cut” for English Translation of “Hanste Hanste kat jaye raste”

6. #iPhone5

The Indian geeks and gadget guys could not stop talking about the upcoming launch of much awaited Apple iPhone 5 at the event expected to be held on September 2012.

7. #Visa

This hash tag was used to discuss the meeting between the Foreign ministers of India and Pakistan. Indian Minister SM Krishna met up with his Pakistani counterpart Hina Rabbani Khar to sign a more liberalized Visa agreement pact between India and Pakistan.

8. #Yuvraj & 9. #T20

Yuvraj Singh’s comeback to the international cricket after overcoming from a life threatening cancer was bound to be discussed. Yuvi makes a comeback through tonight’s T20 match between India and New Zealand. This match is also seen as a practice match before the T20 world cup scheduled to start on September 18.

10. #ISRO and #PSLV

At the time of writing this article, #ISRO and #PSLV are being spoken about fervently by Indian Twitteratis and why not – Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) have successfully launched its 100th space mission PSLV-C21 which carried two foreign satellites as its payload. Congrats ISRO!

    What would be the reason that’s why the Mumbai Rains was the number twitter tag from India ?
    Is it only because it’s a financial capital or that fact is that the most of Indian twitter users are living in Mumbai only :)
