MySmartPrice, an online aggregator and a product price comparison platform, has released an Infographic that offers some interesting insights into what Indian consumers are buying online and how much.
The numbers given by MySmartPrice are based on the visitors to their site spanning 6 categories – Mobiles & Accessories, Books, Computers & Peripherals, Camera & Accessories, Electronics and Appliances.
While findings like “Mobiles & Accessories” being one of the most popular category (52% share) for online buying is known, what I found interesting was the “sales volume split across price range”. 38.6% of all sales made online are less than Rs. 1000 range and around 98% are less than Rs. 10,000/-. This clearly shows that for E-commerce sites in India to be successful, they have to focus more of lower price range products.
Also, Indian online consumers seem to have taken liking to Samsung Products – They feature in 3 out of 4 categories for Top Brands sold online and also top the mobile category. Check out the following Infographic for more insights!
Note: Because the insights are based on the activities of visitors on MySmartPrice, it may not entirely reflect the overall Ecommerce scenario. However, given that MSP gets decent traffic among price comparison portals, the above percentage may closely resemble the actual consumer behaviour online.
