Although the much talked about Google Nexus 7 tablet is scheduled to officially arrive in India by October, if you are too eager, you can get your hands on it in 3-4 weeks time.

Grabmore, an Indian ecommerce site that allows you to buy US products in India has just come up with Pre-Order listing for the coveted Google Nexus 7 Tablet. According to the pre-order listing, Nexus Tablet will cost you Rs. 16,499/- close to Rs. 5000 more than what you would expect to pay when it is officially launched (presumably).

Google Nexus 7

The 8GB Google Nexus 7 officially costs USD 199/- (approx Rs. 11,000 ) and 16GB costs USD 249/- (approx Rs. 13,750) in US. Pre-order listing at Grabmore is a 8GB model. The good part though about this listing is that Rs. 16499 is all inclusive which includes shipping, handling, taxes as well as customs charges.

Given that Nexus 7 has a quad core Tegra processor, 1GB ram and comes loaded with Google’s latest Jelly Bean version on Android – it still looks quite attractive compared to other tablets on offer in Indian market currently.

Before you hit the order button though, you have to keep couple of things in mind. This is a pre-order listing and expected delivery time is about 4 to 5 weeks. Even in the US, Nexus 7 is currently not available and expected to start shipping from mid July. The expected delivery date on Grabmore is from 13th August to 18th August.

So, if you are one of those gadget freaks who want to get your hands first on the latest and the best, go for it. Others could probably wait for another month or two and get it cheaper!

I would prefer a tab with 3g facility .. Wifi is a distant dream, just now 3g networks are getting active various towns in India .. more over donno how good the servicing for problems will be in India.. staying in Chennai, I found it difficult to repair my Google Nexus S by the Samsung service centers as they found it difficult to fix phones imported and not very popular in India… i feel similar problem will be in servicing for nexus 7 too ..

    1. AT says

and I didn mention.. i travel a lot .. and thus I would always prefer to use 3g network over wifi..

Expect the price everything else is very much tempting.. But I prefer to wait as Indian customers wont get access to Google Play Store unless you root it.. which is not at all a good idea for 8 GB Tab

  11. Ravi Sharma says

it could be 11k according to us price..

  12. ravi says

8 gb is not at all a problem , because one can connect it to a flash drive or external drive…. yes, you heard it right, android is capable of that.

    1. Arun Prabhudesai says

It has a USB port? :)

    2. bahar says

Dear Ravi,16GB is more than enough,ok, but how to connect it to a flash memory or external drive or laptop/pc to transfer or use data? even my N70 Nokia mobile has a cable to connect it to the USB port but nexus 7 doesn’t have USB port or any other way of connection ,there is only Micro USB and via Internet. Is it possible to connect it to a flash and transfer music, movies, games, clips or pictures to it? or at least is it possible to connect it to flash and watch movie or play game, or it only relies on Google and downloading from Google which will be boring and also expensive? I want to watch my favorite movies, music, pictures, games… that I already have in my external hard,I’m not interested in what Google suggests or I’m not interested in Internet,I just want to have a fast mob/tab.Is it possible?

      1. ravi says

hey bahar, u r right about ‘enough 16 gb’… but android has far more capability than any other OSs currently present, if u want to add more space you should have the following:
        1. rooted nexus 7.(if u r worried about voiding the warranty u can unroot it later)
        2. usb otg (on the go) cable.
        3. low power flash drive (till 32 gb, ), if you use external hard drive, use the one with ac adaptor to supply power, because tablet don’t have enough power to supply them.EXT3/EXT4 are preferred file system.
        4. a 3rd party app called “stickmount” for nexus 7.
now you are good to go to extend the disk space to your requirement.
        hope this will help.

        1. A says

USB mounting is working..so Tablet acts like pen drive. USB Mass Storage..simple.

  15. Daryl Peris says

Indian customers also need to consider the hardware they are getting for such a competitive price. It's much cheaper than the most high-end phone right now, and has way better hardware.

  16. zy31 says

i think giving 5000 extra for just 2 months wait is oup of Q.

  17. Ramu Kartha says

While Nexus7 specs may look very tempting there are few points that Indian customers need to consider before placing order.

    Excerpts from the firstpost.com site:

    1. No Google Play for India yet.
    2. No MicroSD Card Slot.
    3. No 3G
    4. No Video-Out
    5. No rear camera.

    1. Srini Viswanathan says

      1. There is google play in India, who said there isnt? only prob you cant purchase tv shows or movies…
      2. true, but its ok if 8 gb is enough
      3. No 3g but you can tether your phone 3g to the tablet to use as wifi
      4. is that really necessary?
      5. again , necessary?

Overall, its still an amazing buy for its hardware, also for you newbies you can always transfer apps and other content from your computers to the nexus, so its a bargain

    2. Debashis Hira says

Srini Viswanathan – what's the thing about this streaming movies and tv shows over google play. Is that like the iCloud feature of apple iOS. In layman's term, the storage space is apt if one gets to buy movies or tv shows from google play store or it is fine to transfer stuffs from personal device to the storage space and stream via Wifi over Nexus and watch for free. This thing is a little issue for me currently. Streaming over google store, i suppose wont be free, if logically it is taken into account, one need to purchase stuffs and watch over net without thinking of storing over the limited space. Its like you are alloted some online space for the purchased stuffs. May be for us Indians, transferring via a USB cable and watching stuffs is cool enough.
