Forbes ‘Most Powerful People’ List: Obama regains No.1, Sonia Gandhi & Manmohan Singh in Top 20!

Congress President Sonia Gandhi (11th rank) and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh (19th rank) once again stormed into the list of top 20 most powerful people on earth, as per the latest count by Forbes.

However, both the Indian politicians have slipped in Forbe’s rankings of world’s most powerful people as compared to last year’s entry. While Sonia Gandhi was ranked at 9th spot last year, the Oxford-educated economist had chipped in at 18th position in 2010 ranking.

Well, no points for guessing the world’s most powerful person – It’s none other than the US president Barack Obama, after witnessing a late victory over the world’s foremost terrorist Osama Bin Laden. Moreover, the US President toppled China’s Hu Jintao from the numero uno position over the last year’s ranking, as the leader of the most deadly military power in the world.

After Obama, the next most powerful person tag was grabbed by Vladimir Putin with strong speculation that the autocratic Russian leader would control the reigns of his nation until 2024. From being the fourth most powerful person on the earth a year-ago, the Russian Prime Minsiter came in at a coveted second position in 2011 rankings.

Among other Indians to feature in the renowned list of Forbes are Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani at 35th place and software company Wipro’s Chairman Azim Premzi at 61st spot on the world’s most powerful people index by Forbes. Steel baron Lakhsmi Mittal came in as 47th position.

Organized crime figure Dawood Ibrahim, leader of D-company gang, has been considered as 57th most powerful person in the world, sticking to his same ranking as last year’s provided by Forbes. Furthermore, in 2010 rankings, Al Qaida’s Osama bin Laden was ranked at 63rd position.

Usually, the list of most powerful people on the earth sounds incomplete without the mention of Bill Gates (5th rank) in the top 5 rankings. Interestingly, Mark Zuckerberg (9th rank), founder of social media site Facebook, notched his place in the top 10 most powerful people list, as against 40th ranking in previous edition.
