According to Paul Allen, who has been tracking and pitching Google+ user numbers based on his unique methodology, Google+ has hit 50 Million users in 88 days straight. Not only that, since being opened to the general public few days back, Google+ has been growing by at least 4% per day, meaning that around 2 million new users have been signing up each day on Google+.

Yes, Google+’s growth will slowly taper down from current rate, however, claims from everyone previously that “It will be very difficult for Google to be successful in Social space” now seem so far fetched!

Coming back to Google+ growth – Take a look at how much time other popular social media platforms took to reach 50 million users.

Facebook, currently sitting pretty on over 800 million users took 15x more time than what Google+ has done to reach first 50 million users. There is no doubt that over coming months and years, Google+ will add hundreds of millions of users.

Here is a trivia for you – It took radio broadcasters 38 years to reach an audience of 50 million, television 13 years and internet took about 4 years!

What’s your take on Google plus’s future?

Not sure how many of them are active users.

But the fact of the matter is if we compare the days or hrs spent..facebook, Twiiter or LinkedIn will appear much ahead of G+. Still the battle is very much on I think.

@Ashish Srivastava: u r 100% correct. Also the frequency of usage of 50 million users should be considered while comparing with FB & Twitter.

The best analogy I can think of is that of a moving into a new apartment.
Google Plus – A Presidential Suite in an already heavily populated apartment community.
Facebook – Exclusive suburban locality accessible to only a few people in the beginning.

People are NOT on google plus because they want to be on it. They are on it, because it is so easy to open an account even if you have no intention of using it actively. There is no experience driven growth, it is all convenience driven growth.
Google Plus won't be any challenge to Facebook if it can't capture the imagination of users. In my speculation.. Google Plus is not working yet..
