When we reviewed the BWA Auction last, I had thought that it will start loosing its steam, but it is not so – The Pan-India license cost rose over 814 crores to touch 10651 crores. With this kind of pricing, it is quite obvious that like 3G no single telecom player will have a single Pan-India license, but will go for selected A, B or C circles.

Before the auction started if someone would have asked me, what would BWA auction fetch, I would have quoted maximum 50% of 3G licensing price(Pan). But as we have it, BWA license price has already reached 63.5% of of 3G.

With today’s provisional winning price, exchequer stands to gain 31,953 crore rupees out of which 21,302 crore will come from Private Telecom Operators.

Here is another biggie – Exchequer has now garnered (approx) 1 Lakh Crore from 3G & BWA Auction combines (3G price close to 68k crore & BWA price close to 32k crore)

Here are some of the key highlights of BWA Auction Day 12

    • Total of 92 rounds of bidding have been completed (10 rounds on Day 12)
    • Mumbai circle price stands highest at Rs 1,804.30 Crore, a rise of 18.04 cr with excess demand of 1
    • Delhi circle price stands second highest at Rs Rs 1,758.29 Crore, a rise of 17.58 cr with excess demand of 1
    • In state circles Tamil Nadu rose by 16.14 crore to 1614.48 cr with excess demand of 1. Karnataka rose by 12.77 cr to 1277.48 cr and still has excess demand of 1.
    • Andra Pradesh rose by 9.12 cr to 912.36 cr and does not have any excess demand
    • Among other states, Maharashtra (Rs 924.79 cr) & Gujarat (Rs 578.31 cr) did not see any price increments and have negative bids.
    • Out of 22 circles 13 circles are showing excess bids, 5 are showing neutral bids and 4 are showing negative bids.
    • Bihar is showing maximum excess demand with 3 bids.

To be honest with you, it is great to see that telecom operators are betting big on 3G as well as BWA services, however, one thing remains – The costlier the bids, the more we will have to pay from our pockets…What do you say?
