Yes, it is pathetic to say the least – India has to improve its broadband speeds…Yes, we are riding high on the mobile revolution, but it is imperative that broadband Internet access reaches nook & corner of India for it to really be in the forefront on Information Highway.

How pathetic is India’s Internet situation is aptly pointed out by recent report released by “Akamai – State of the Internet

StateofInternetIndia State of Internet in India – Pathetic !

Here are some of the highlight of the report:

    • India ranked #114 for average connections speed, at 849 kbps. Think about it, a country which is supposedly an IT hub is ranked nearly at the bottom.
    • India ranked #8, with 3.3 percent of observed attack traffic.
    • India ranked #20 globally for number of unique IP addresses seen by Akamai, with over 3 million IPs. Think about this – We have 2nd largest population in the world, still we rank lowly 20th when it comes to unique IP address share.
    • Ranked #159 globally for number of unique IP addresses per capita, with 0.0030.
    • Delhi and Maharashtra top the list with over 1 million unique IPs each.
