Now now now…what do we have here – I see everyone calling Notion Ink’s Adam Tablet – “The iPad Killer” – is it really so?

Let me not make a judgment here and I will let the readers decide whether it is or it is not an iPad Killer.

    Notion Ink Adam Looks

Okay, lets face it – it is not a stunner as the Apple iPad is – The looks are much more sober and functional.

    Notion Ink’s Adam Features

This is where Notion Ink’s Adam is heads above its much publicized rival Apple iPad – Lets look at some of the major features:

    • Display – 10.1-inch Pixel Qi transflective display
    • Fully capacitive touch screen
    • 12mm Thickness
    • CPU – dual-core ARM Cortex A9 CPUs
    • Graphics – Nvidia Tegra 2 on-board chipset
    • Resolution supported – 1024×600
    • Playback – Full 1080p

In terms of specification Notion Ink’s Adam tablet clearly out-weighs Apple iPad – except the multi-touch support. Compared with iPad’s 9.7-inch IPS LCD with 4:3 aspect ratio, Adam will come with 10-inch Tran reflective LCD PixelQi screen supporting 1024×600 at the same time. Low power consuming PixelQi screen will support full color along with a Black & White mode.

Apple iPad offers 10 hours web browsing on Wi-Fi and 8 hours of video watching experience, Whereas Notion Ink claims that Adam offers 16 hours of web browsing. The Adam also boasts of a 160 hours of run time.

The biggest aspect of Adam is that it has support for multiple open-source operating system, which is a big big plus ! While Apple sticks to Safari for iPad, Adam tablet will have Firefox and Chrome web browsers to support. The Operating system on Adam will be supporting Multi-tasking which I guess is not available on iPad.

Another significant feature the OS support on Adam is that the Adobe Flash Player 10.1 support will exist for better web browsing experience.

For storage expansion, Adam has open SD card slot while Apple sticks to SSD options with 16GB, 32GB and 64GB storage options.

For wireless connectivity Adam again has Wi-Fi, 3G and Bluetooth, just like in the iPad.

Apart from that, the Adam has ambient light sensor, RF sensor, Assisted-GPS, proximity sensor, accelerometer and touchpad. Adam also offers HDMI and three USB ports. While iPad has no camera, the Adam tablet sports 3 megapixel auto focus camera.

The only thing lacking in Adam as compared to iPad is Multitouch, but the overdose of features far out-weigh that lacuna.

    Notion Ink’s Adam Pricing

The Adam, even with all the features it is offering beats iPad in pricing –While Adam’s starting price  is of $327 (Rs. 16,000 approx.) while iPad’s starting price is $499 (Rs. 24,000 approx.).

Over to you  – What’s your take? Is Indian bred Notion Ink’s Adam a serious threat to Apple iPad?

i love this device, i was sold as soon as i looked at the specs on their web site. comparing the Notion Ink Adam to the ipad isn’t fair. Over the years, Apple has shown that it has excellent designers and innovative engineers. But in this case, the Notion Ink Adam simply blows the iPad. the best selling points are the fact that it’s geared toward open source, and it does everything that the iPad does as well as doesn’t do. on top of that, it does it better and at a lower price than the iPad. anyone who wants a excellent value for their money shouldn’t even consider the iPad in the same category as the Notion Ink Adam because this device is in a higher category. simply put, the Notion Ink Adam is far better than the iPad.

Apple will always have its supporters, but as far as bang for buck goes, the Adam is much superior to the Ipad. Unless someone comes out with something better in the next few months, I will be ordering the Adam.

Did you say ‘serious threat’? Adam Notion Ink is exactly to iPad what was iPhone to Blackberry. Notion ink is 100 times better then iPad. I cant see even one reason where anyone would iPad or any other slate over Notion Ink :).

There has always been products which are better and sometimes cheaper than mainstream hyped ones, but the areas in which they score poorly are support and service, marketing and content providers. If Adam breaks all these barriers then it has a head start in Indian market…

I’d definitely go for this one. The PixelQi is a big plus. On the iPad you won’t be able to read books well

    you stated
    # Resolution supported – 1024×600
    # Playback – Full 1080p

both the statements are contradictory, 1080p means the screen can show 1080 pixels in progressive mode on the shorter side. The shorter side here is 600. Please explain. Btw what is the price of this Adam?

Dude. You are so damn wrong. 1080p means it can play 1080p video smoothly without any glitches. Screen resolution is a different thing. Although you are right about the video that 1080p means the **VIDEO** shows 1080 pixels in progressive mode on the shorter side, not the screen.
