Content Delivery over the Web is getting bigger and everyone is jumping into it – Literally every week couple of announcements related to it. The latest is the list is Bharti Airtel who have announced their entry into Content Delivery (CDN) space in partnership with Limelight networks.

According to the announcement,
- Limelight Network and Bharti Airtel will be setting up 2 new CDN PoPs in Mumbai and Chennai.
- Will offer business customers, access to Limelight Networks 25 Delivery Centers and 900 last mile networks across the globe
- Initiative to enhance Internet user experience in the Indian marketplace.
- End users can now look forward to an uninterrupted internet experience, be it a HD movie, online purchases, music, video games or downloading software
India is a fast growing Market in Content Delivery Network space, which is expected to grow to $100 million in next 3 years.
Already in last few months we have seen 3 major Indian Telecom companies jump into this space.
- Reliance Globalcom (partnered with Internap)
- Tata Communications (partnered and invested in BitGravity)
- Bharti Airtel (partnered with Limelight)
My real question is – Do we have enough Internet Bandwidth in India where consumers will be viewing rich media over the Internet? Till such time that we have good broadband penetration along with high speeds, what’s the use of setting up state-of-the-art Content Delivery Networks? or have I missed something here?
over to you !

Its going to be a big thing in India but don’t think they will be able to get anything immediate. As BitGravity & Internap is in india from quite sometime now but they are not able achieve anything out of it. The plans needs to be more aggressive and the local sales/technology teams needs to understand the concept. Akamai has got success in India by setting up there own team without tying up with any ISP/Vendor.
Anyways, these guys need to come to India otherwise, its going to be a monopoly of Akamai ;)
All the best guys!!!
