IPL Season 3 will be available Streaming Live on Youtube !

It is not yet official, but if reports  appearing in mainstream media are to be believed, Cricket Fans worldwide will be able to watch IPL Season III streaming live on their computers !

IPL Youtube Streaming live

It is speculated that Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will partner with Google India to stream live matches of its IPL league. The Indian Premier League will be starting on March 11th and will have 59 matches spanning over 44 days. The players auction is currently underway and we will soon come to know the cost of new players entering this tournament.

I saw an interesting aspect during IPL Season II, the recordings of the IPL matches were uploaded (illegally) literally within few minutes of Matches being played. Youtube users captured it from Television and uploaded them on various Video streaming sites like Youtube. Although, these videos were invariably taken down, it used to mop up 1000s of views before it went off-air.

To combat this (piracy), BCCI seems to have gone ahead and taken this step for tying up with Google. But I am not sure how the deal is being worked out as BCCI has already given Telecast right to Sony Entertainment Television for Domestic Telecast, while WSG has got the rights world over – BCCI cannot sell rights of telecast to any other party now.

If the matches are streamed live, it will really be a treat for Global Cricket lovers. Currently, the Cable TV charges for IPL viewing world-wide are very high. Nothing has been confirmed about how the subscription charges will be for this live streaming, but I assume that they will be pretty low as compared to Cable TV charges.

Whatever said and done, this is a welcome move and will sure increase popularity of IPL and cricket world-wide !

Is this visible only in India or everywhere? If it is seen around the world Indian cricket would get world fame and now Youtube videos won’t take long time to load, its very light and their are no interruptions while watching. Another thing I wanted to know is how is BCCI going to monetize this, it will result in a loss of revenue if their planning to host no ads. I hope Sony Max won’t rise any objections against this.
