There is a lot of buzz going around Auto Expo that is being currently held in Delhi. Last year it Tata Nano which was a cynosure of all eyes – It was all about that one Lakh car.

Who is going to be this time?

This year’s Auto Expo is much bigger than it was last time and many new models that are slated to be launched in 2010 are being showcased. The week-long show is expected to draw a world record of two million visitors, underlining India’s growing importance as a major market as well as manufacturing hub for the global automobile industry.

If you have seen National Newspapers in last couple of days, I am sure you must have seen those Full page ads of those super luxury cars being showcased at the expo.

Here is a rundown on some of my favorites that will catch the fancy of your imagination. While last year it was all about people’s car Nano, this year, number of luxury cars are also in fray along with numerous new compact cars.

    The Mercedes SLS AMG:

If you have seen newspaper in last couple of days, you surely would not have missed this car. Mercedes Benz unveiled the SLS AMG coupe model with top open door and Newer version of Mercedes Benz S Class. Not without a reason have they called it “Pure Fascination”

As for the price, I am not sure. Its nearest cousin the AMG Desert Gold will be costing roughly about 2 crores !! yeah, that’s the price you have to pay to have such a machine !

    The Jaguar XF Concept

With Tata Motors taking over Jaguar – Land rover, we should expect these luxurious models to be launched in India, sooner than later.

Along with 3 new Tata Cars, it also unveiled the post Jaguar XF concept car. Hope to see them on Indian Roads soon !

    The Renault Twizy

Now these cars are the need of hour – The zero-emission Renault Twizy which still is in concept stage will soon go into production in India. Remember, even if these cars are small, they are extremely expensive and depend on Governments Tax-benefits to make them viable for general public.

They may or may not come on Indian roads, but ain’t they really cute? Imagine driving such a car on Indian road :)

There were slew of other cars that were launched during the Auto-Expo. Some of the notable ones are – Toyota Etios Hatchback and Sedan, Tata Venture, Tata Prima, Tata Aria, Mercedes Benz GL class, CDI and S 500L. Volkswagen Polo which will soon be launched in India was another major attraction.

On a side note – Do you know that DC had taken a 1 Lakh Nano and converted it into a 1 Crore designer small Car? believe it !

    Nice post Arun…!!!

India surely has come to the global front last year, as most of the big companies have lined up their best cars for India. With the companies like Volkswagon (which introduced beetle) and most of the others have decided to jump onto the small car segment ( http://in.reuters.com/article/topNews/idINIndia-45153220100105?feedType=nl&feedName=intopnews ) underlined India’s growing importance as a major automobile market (as u rightly said).

Also I was very much surprised about the 1-crore Nano car ( http://beta.thehindu.com/business/article76537.ece ) that whether it will sell in India or not, thats the big question…???
