Telecom Tuesday: 120 Million Urban Indians played games on Mobile Phones

Vital Analytics has come out with an interesting report that suggests 120 million Urban Indians played games on their mobile Phones.

Totally, 41% of all Urban Mobile phone users played games on their mobile – In terms of time spent, 37% spent less than a hour and 30% spent between 1-2 hours playing games on their mobile phones

Sports games like Cricket, Soccer, bowling etc is the most popular genre of games played on mobile phones, by 40% of all mobile gamers.

Arcade/Puzzle games like Soduku come in a close second played by 37% of all mobile gamers.

Its interesting that 4 out of 10 people spent significant time playing games. And with new state-of-the-art mobile phones getting launched, this number should significantly rise in coming years.

There are already lots of mobile VAS startups but hardly anybody are succeeding. May be the timing is not right.
