Kingfisher became the first Airlines in India to use Twitter. Kingfisher will update its guests through the social media rising star – twitter. When I said it was the first company that was a hunch. Because I did not hear any other Indian company using Twitter. Maybe few startups are using it but, none in the India Inc circle.

This initiative would make it easier for anyone to receive instant updates from Kingfisher Airlines and more importantly, open a new platform for the brand to actively converse with its guests, said a press release. (CIOL)

Kingfisher is the first airline to use twitter. How effective would it be is something we have to wait and see. I do not expect twitter overcapacity thumb Kingfisher boards Twitter Flight Who is next? them to pay their dues with twitter. But twitter is a cost effective way of staying in touch with your customers and possibly shareholders.

2009 marks as a year of social networking for India. An 80-year-old politician took to blogging in 2009. A fraud hit company used YouTube to relay the board message to instill confidence in the users. Few politicians took to Facebook and twitter. IPL is one more thing, which embraced the social media and twitter.

Who would have thought something like a 140 characters or less would be such a huge phenomenon. The potential of twitter is so huge that no body knows what exactly to do with it. So everybody is trying anything and everything. Amazingly, it all works.

The question is, which other companies has a potential to use twitter effectively? I am thinking the travel portals like the IRCTC, RedBus, ticketvala can use twitter effectively. Movie booking sites are the other obvious targets.

Who else can use twitter? Will the companies release earnings report via Twitter?

Twitter is suitable for broadcast communication. Sure people use it for one-to-one communication as well but by nature its more suitable for one to many communication. So activities requiring on-to-many communication will find Twitter useful. Stock alerts come to mind as service that can use Twtter effectively. Train statuses, News and weather updates are other uses.

Creating a Twitter account is fine whereas to use it effectively is another thing. We need to wait and see how KF is making use of it and for how much time..

As of now, they can enjoy the first mover advantage.

There are also Wipro, TCS, Infosys on Twitter

Companies use twitter as a strategic tool to announce the latest and exciting product offering to the people who matter the most – followers.
