OMFG! 2009 is worse

by Sriram Vadlamani on January 11, 2009 |

I wished everybody a Happy New Year. I was also celebrating that 2008 is over. My new year wishes are just that – wishes. I am not sure about you but, I am not finding 2009 exciting at all.

It is only 10 days into the new year and look what we have seen. The trucker’s strike which is rocking the country. Trucker’s across the country are not happy with the diesel rates and the taxes. They want a reduction of diesel prices by 10 rupees per liter. Along with that they want some taxes to be waived for 6 months.

On the other hand, officers in PSU’s had rocked the nation by going on a strike. Reason : Salaries are not enough. They needed a hike. The whole world is staring at an ugly recession and you want a hike? They are getting salaries anywhere between 1 lakh and 3 lakh per month. At least the Prime Minister thinks their demands are unreasonable. I tend to agree with the Prime Minister. Irrespective the reasons strike is not the way to do things.

Look, I am not terribly happy with my salary neither am I happy with the taxes I am paying. I am not even happy for the price I pay at the pump. But I did not go on a strike. I am actually working doubly hard. I am blogging. That is what these trucker dudes and the oil dudes do. They should blog about it. That would relieve some pressure.

Let us get to the biggest bomb of all. Yes it is the Satyam saga. It just shook everybody. Every call I made this week did end up with a discussion about Satyam. I did not place any more calls. The reach of the satellite TV is incredible. I called my dad the other night just to see how things are and he briefed me about the latest details upto the arrest of the CFO Srinivas Vadlamani. Oh! BTW I am not related to the CFO of Satyam. Just thought I would let you know.

Finally, things are moving in Satyam’s case. Old board is disbanded. A new board with Kiran Karnik, Deepak Parekh and C. Achutan has been appointed. My gut feeling is Satyam will be bailed out. If my tax money is used to waive off farmer loans, to give subsidies on petro products — why not bail Satyam and its employees out? Sure, No Problemo.

All these things made me wonder what else are we going to see in 2009. It is only 11 days and 2009 already sucks. Gosh we still got 354 days left. Are we sitting on landmine? I don’t know about you folks but I am scared.

What else will we see in 2009? Mayawati as Prime Minister?

There might be a silver lining amidst all this.
Look, it cant get worser than this I suppose. But that’s me !
So lets get all bad things right up at start.
Once we hit rockbottom, there only way that’s up north !

Have you seen the labour ministry numbers from US, they are horrible!

Get us some numbers similar from India :-)

“That is what these trucker dudes and the oil dudes do. They should blog about it”
Some kid from the city asking truck drivers to blog. Do some reality check on how many people in India use internet. For us, people who live on internet, we think whole world is on it. We think blogging solves the world’s problems. Internet is the last thing in their mind.

“Gosh we still got 354 days left”absolutely we still have 354 days left and there is a lot more to go…we still have a lot of time in hand and especially 2009 might prove a splendid year for India.Well I am writing this without any analysis but saying this would be wrong that we still have worst to be seen.Proabably it might not be that and we have a lot of time to achieve more things. So India keep going!!!

You know Sriram…many have predicted that 2008 was just the start for the things to come. The countries Economy has not seen the nothing yet.
However, I think if we keep these negatives in mind, I dont think it is either going to help us or our micro and macro surroundings.
Lets try to look at positives and keep a positive mind during these tough times. So many times it has happened that I am tempted to write negative events on this blog, but I restrict my self.

I really loved this para

Lets work hard and look only at positives that far and apart during these times!

@Manoj : It was more sarcastic note on the whole scenario. I do know about the Internet penetration.

@Arun : It is not all negative. ‘It is what it is’ kind of stuff. The positive thing about the whole thing is I am willing to let my tax money go in bailing out Satyam.

I am happy that everybody is upbeat about the rest of the year which is what I expect.

As Arun and Anand mentioned it cannot get any worse so there is only one way to go. Up.

Cheers.

I particularly liked the way you ended your serious note with Mayawati humor :)..
To me its like a World facing trouble from all way around, first it was India which said we are shielded from Global recession because of blah blah reasons, now its us who have started talking on these serious notes.
So its destiny which wants to see the World at bottom, reasons could be…Recession for West, Strikes (Terror, trucks, Oil whatever..) for us!!!!!!!!!!!
