Pennywise Solutions is a SME (Small or medium enterprise) providing solutions for SME’s. There are a lot of IT companies in this space and Pennywise’s cost effective solutions along with the technical expertise is the key differentiator. It is enjoying a ranking of 10 in the Tata NEN startup hunt. Pennywise follows the traditional offshore outsourcing model.
Pennywise is a startup which is spread across all the popular web technologies like .net, java, open source LAMP, search engine optimitization etc.. Their verticals are also pretty wide starting from education, entertainment, and financial services to transportation and digital media. It is almost a one-stop shop for all the IT needs of a SME. Dun & Bradstreet in association with Fullerton has recognized Pennywise as the best small company in the IT & ITes sector.
Pennywise is not yet another software services company. They do have a product which I think will be of most interest to all of us. Tolmolbol is their local business search engine. This portal or search engine will help people to find and locate reliable businesses, write reviews and share their experiences. It is a community based search engine/ portal for the small businesses. Users can also post classifieds in this site for free of cost.
Unlike the popular saying “Penny wise pound foolish” this company is penny wise and pound wise. This company has ventured into almost all verticals one can think of. This is not typical of a company of this size. Their revenue model is based on consultancy, development and advertising services to their clients. The turnover of the company in 2007 is between 5 crores to 15 crores.
With such wide variety of services and verticals, Pennywise is easily scalable. Their next big leap would come sooner than they think. But the real concern is their employee base, which is less than 100. I am not sure how they are able to provide services in almost 10 verticals with 100 employees (i.e, 10 employees per vertical). Small company or big company the service you provide would be of same magnitude.
Let us see if Pennywise the next Infosys.

the nexr infy…isint that a bit too much..considering its not focused as infy on its product line
@Jignesh : Tata NEN is running this contest to find the next Infy. My comment was on the similar lines. I did not know what Infosys’s strategy or product/service mix back then. My guess is there will not be any next Infosys. India Inc will produce be something bigger.
