Yes, sure they should? BigTV will launch today with much better MPEG4 compression technology compared to MPEG2 technology used by Dish TV and Tata Sky, that would enable Big TV to offer over 240 channels versus the 160 channels that can be offered on MPEG2 Platform. It also delivers much better picture and sound quality than MPEG2.
Knowing Reliance group, they will not hold back anything. Infact, Reliance ADA Group, company behind Big TV has lined up Rs 100 crores for advertising and promotional campaign to make an impact in this highly competitive segment.
Big TV is scheduled to roll out its first services in Mumbai this week followed by Delhi and has roped in Mudra Communications to handle advertising and campaign account. Big TV, which would simultaneously offer services in over 5,000 towns and cities across the country, is looking for a 360 degree high voltage campaign.
Big TV had already completed trial runs across 2,400 towns and offering service to customers of other Reliance ADAG group firms for just Rs 1,000 with an estimated subscriber base of 40,000.
The company is believed to have placed an order for five million set top boxes with leading Korean and Taiwanese vendors for requirements in the first year. [ET]
Big TV not only has superior technology and financial Muscle, but its strength in gaming business will help Big TV to offer strong gaming applications besides interactive features around areas like cricket, news, Bollywood and music.

As long as Big TV is able to offer decent customer support, I have not doubt they will make life tougher for Dish TV and Tata Sky unless they take some drastic measures to overcome Big TV assault.

What I don’t understand is how Big will prioritize IPTV vs. its Dish in terms of marketing and distribution…

I don’t think so. BigTv may not make any big impact because it doesn’t offer anything on the platter for customers that is attractive enough to ditch existing players like DishTv and TataSky.
MPEG4 vs MPEG2 war cannot be fought today as the technological advantages cannot be clearly shown to customers at this point. Greater compression in MPEG4 will not mean anything to customer and adding 100 more channels cannot pull the customers away. Sure it may win new customers but again all DTH platforms will suffer in the log run when HITS become a reality.
CableWallah is not going anywhere and HITS will be implemented to protect their livelyhoods and holds the promise of providing 1000+ channels, true interactivity and better customer service.
I see WWIL winning in the long run and also DishTV as it holds the license for HITS.
Whether dishtv can be replaced by u to give bigtv?
my experience with reliance has been at best pitiful – their customer service sucks. I have filed a complaint against their landline service with TRAI and also lots of issues with their leaseline in my office..
i would never go to them if i had an option – and thankfully in the TV space, i do!
Tata Sky and Dish TV because of Big TV launches ..its definitely affect the market of Tata Sky and Dish TV..because everyone want to move forward with passage of time and high technology.

Hi Readers,I just wanted to share my worst experience with "Reliance BIG TV" DTH Service.First of all I request everybody not to purchase "Reliance BIG TV" connection.Well, to start with I have taken BIG TV "Set Top Box" on 31/Aug/2008 "Invoice No. 0101038073" from one of the Main Web World, Mehdipatnam Branch (Hyderabad).I think initially as a company while selling the product, web world person has to inform me about all the future requirements from my side, but they have not given any kind of information.Actually, one Work Order ID is required in order to have installation for BIG TV, that we can get after calling customer care of BIG TV.But because they have not informed me that I hvae to call Customre care, it was delayed for 2 days, and by chance I called c.care for some other reason on 02/Sep/2008 and got my work order ID.Even after having my work order ID, I have not recieved any call from the Installation team for Installation, I raised complaint for the same also for so many times, but none of any use.Almost everyday for more than 1.5 hours I was calling c.care for any kind of solution and spoke to around more than 12 c.care representatives, to name some of them are :- Sheetal, Usha, Bhaven, Ganesh, Priya and so on and escalated the same issue to some of the senior members as well they are:- Rahul and Bhuvneshwari.Everybody was saying the same thing repeatedly "we are sorry for the inconvinience caused, it will be done asap……etc…..".Till today, i.e. 12/SEP/2008 more than 12 days after purcahse of STB, I am still waiting for the installation…..??? and still have no update….One more intersting thing, I called c.care to ask "is it possible to return the STB because of bad services", the representative straight forward answered "just go to the web world and return back the STB, they will refund the money", they people are not even concerned about the problem and reason why I asked to return it back.Finally, I request everybody again PLZ PLZ PLZ never go for "Reliance BIG TV", only name is BIG, everything else is small.For any kind of details or assistance you can reach me at "09966222601" or "akhilesh.davim@gmail.com".Go for TATA SKY, DISHTV or SUN DIRECT, but not for BIGTV…….!Have a Good Day,Akhilesh Gupta,+919966222601

Hi Guys, hope you all remember when they launched mobiles with too many promises guess this is much worser than that. They say “MPEG-4″ but didnt state which “part” is it and that makes a lot of difference. There not going to be much difference if its below part”5″. SO PLEASE DONT FALL FOR IT just a HYPE.
TATA SKY’s a much better choice and trustable.

Reliance BIG TV OFERS PATHETIC SERVICE It took 8 days for installing the disk and the set top box (for which they banged my door at 9PM) and after 15 days of connection the it did not work for 4 days and again after 10 days its totally gone..
The sickest people on earth attend to complains in the call centers. While the complaint was logged the turnaround time said was 48 hrs. When called again, the customer care after 48 hrs they say its 50 hrs from the time the case was logged and suggests me to wait till the evening and when asked if people does not attend to the complaint and what would be the action taken, he says I have on option to tell you…….
Though they came up with new technology, it is useless until they provide at least basic service forget good service…..

The Service of BIG TV is very BAD. They are not keeping their promises. Most of the time many channels listed are not available. Number of regional Channals(Malayalam) are very less. Compare top BIG TV Asianet provide good number of channels nearly at same price. So I am requesting the company authorities to look back the service provided by their concerned employees. This will create a bad name to the Reliance ccompany
Its been three months that I have Reliance Big TV,I was told that I would get all the movie channels free,for one month I did get the movies free but then last two months I am not getting any free english movies,over and above I have recharged my account yesterday at 3.30 -4.00pm till now Iam not getting any channel on my TV.Its been my twentieth call since then to the toll free number and the customer service representative does not have any answer,either they will say the “server is down” or c”can you call back after half an hour” etd rubbish.Its my first interaction with Reliance and I can bet this is the last……..I promise not to take any services from Reliance in my life be it any damn thing.
Iam also planning to go to the consumer court tomorrow .
That’s why the trust on Multinational companies is high ,Companies like reliance throw cheap offers and their follow up is also of same standards.
My inlaws have TATA Sky and I keep visiting them often,but I have never seen any problem with them,Infact Airtel also is far better reliable than “NON RELIANT”…….Reliance.

For a lot of people, anything that Reliance does is like the best thing to happen to them. Unfortnately, Reliance ethics have gone for a toss over last few years and they have started using their internal conflicts to fleece common people.
It is sad really ! Stay away from anything that Reliance serves you !
