Can you believe that ? But thats the truth, whether you believe it or not.
Thanks to very infrequent rains, Pune Electricity board decided to cut off electricity for whooping 6 hours a day ! Some of you may say that your still have enough time (4-5 hours) to do your stuff on the internet..Not true…What is electricity of any use without internet connectivity.
The story goes like this:
When Pune electricity board announced 6 hour power cuts for 3 hours in 2 trenches (morning 9 to 12 and 3.30 to 6.30 for my area), I was not too worried as I have a UPS backup of 2.5 hours at my office (where my startup operates). But, when load shedding started I came to know that, even though I had electricity, I will not be having internet connection from morning 9 to evening 9 !
The Tata Indicom broadband connection that I have operates in a weird way. The switches that they have do not have backup and if power is off in adjoining area where switches is located (power in that area went off when it came in our area), there is no connectivity.
Without going into much details, let me say that with miniscule internet connectivity (post 9pm), I really did not have much time to post. I guess Trak.in will resume with its post frequency shortly – I have ordered reliance broadband connection that should be installed by tomorrow.
It is just unbelievable how much dependency we have on Internet ! I have been so edgy since the time all this started.

thats really bad. i suggest you should go with BSNL data one.
Arun,All have been edgy(!)….my co has forcefully given friday off and we are operating today….on a saturday ;-0I emphatize with the small scale cos…wondering how are they managing it?
Your predicament is understandable. Power shortage in the State of Maharashtra is the biggest challenge for infrastructure and growth of Industry. Pune is growing in the field of IT and education. Such instances would certainly worry investors wanting to set up or grow their IT base in Pune.  It is a wake up call for bureaucrats and industry chieftains alike and we will back "on Trak"! Â
Sharath, unfortunately the BSNL data one is not available in my area. This is my first comment from Reliance Wi-max connection and it is surprisingly speedy !
Gopinath, well said. If Pune does not take steps fast, it is going to be a huge negative. Power supply is one of the most basic aspects and if you are not able to deliver on that, it is poses serious problem…
Yeah Tata Indicom is a bad choice… i have faced the same too… and heard from friends.. u nfortunate u had to go thru bad times at office.. i hope work went ok!
Yes its better we get rid of these problems soon so that another destination also becomes world class. Why miss out on Pune! And yes we are way behind other countries in internet connectivity.Speed sucks no doubt but there are other problems also. Â
I don’t want to sound as an anti incumbency, the problem lies with policies made by them, who we elect, countrywide. it hasn’t got to do just with MH or TN, AP.
Its got to do with our right to choose. These so called elected decision makers cant digress the demand & supply syndrome nor these industry heads can address.
Tare zameen pe kid can figure this demand & supply issue, why cant the rest of us.
whats the supply side is onto. TATA, ANIL DHURUBHAI, wake up. its u r duty. period.
Well, i’d like to say that, instead of Maharastra and Pune, consider Gujarat and Ghandhinagar (or Surat) to start your IT  company and see the difference.
Personally,  i’m working in G’nagar and brought up in surat. I got my first job in pune so i know the city very well.
Currantly i’m operating my IT comapny from Ghandhinagar, and it feeels like i’m in Silicon Valley.
– It’s a gr8 place to work, live. Far from pollution and traffic jams.
- Constant and relialbe power supply.
- Low cost and high profile accomodation.
- Nearby to Ahmedabad.
