The No.1 brand in India comes to Second Life

by Arun Prabhudesai on June 5, 2008

Amul, India’s number one brand is probably the first large Indian company to establish its presence on Second Life, a very popular virtual world on the Internet.

Amul is planning to buy eight-10 islands, equal to 160 acres of virtual land, in Second Life to set up a simulation of its production and distribution facility. The objective behind launching a virtual setup is to demonstrate its functioning to the consumers, and experiment with any change in the production or distribution system virtually before executing it in the real world. I have always been a great fan of Amul and their creative and controversial hoardings, which have been wildly successful in creating Brand Amul. Now we will have to wait see how successful this online venture gets.

If you are on secondlife, you should make it a point to go and visit Amul store. Let us know your experiences.

This is good strategy from amul, It will not only expand the user base of amul in India but also it will improve brand image of amul. also, amul needs to improve distribution by introducing more innovative products for Indian rural consumers.
