Indian Mobile user’s Internet Usage

by Arun Prabhudesai on May 20, 2008

Mini Opera is one of the best and most widely used mobile web browser available in the market today. Their latest update has been a big hit with users. Since its worldwide launch in 2006, more than 44 million people have downloaded and used Opera Mini. More than 11.9 million people used Opera Mini in March 2008.

Opera mini has surveyed anonymous traffic of more than 44 million cumulative Opera Mini users worldwide to see where mobile users chose to spend their time when using the Web on their mobile devices. The figures released have India centric data as well, which throws up interesting numbers and sites.

The data consumption on the mobile phones has seen tremendous growth with 11.9 million Opera Mini users consuming more than 33 million MB of data for operators worldwide. This represents an almost 88% growth in last 3 months alone.

As far as Indian users go, nearly half (48.9%) of all traffic visit to social networks via their mobile phones. Here is the list of top 10 sites in India.

  1. Orkut
  2. Google
  3. Yahoo
  4. peperonity
  5. gallery.mobile9.com
  6. mocospace
  7. 160by2
  8. mobango
  9. itsmy
  10. Indian railways

For me the biggest surprise is the number 4 site – peperonity . Is this mobile site that popular?
