Trak.in blog has made fool of its readers !!!!

by Arun Prabhudesai on December 3, 2007

Yes..Thats what one Mr. Raj has to say about Trak.in blog !

Here is a comment that he has left on pluggd.in

Do you know how trak.in has made fool of it’s readers? They have installed the analytics code twice – which means every visit to the site is counted twice!!! (view their source code and search for urchin code)

And shamelessly they announced they have reached 100K pageviews!

Very disgusting!

First off, the comment above goes to show how far some readers can go to dissect a blog. Second, the comment made was without any knowledge of how Analytics code works and third I was surprised that this kind of comment was left on another blog, instead of seeking simple clarifiaction or leaving a comment on this blog.

About the 2 urchin codes mentioned, I did not find it when I tried searching for it. Offcourse there are 2 places in source where urchin is mentioned but it is part of same code…

Are there any other readers who have doubts in their mind?

Luckily trak.in blog uses statcounter code along with Google Analytics too and that probably will cross verify the allegation.

Mr. Raj is probably refering to October stats post when Trak.in blog reached 100,000 pageviews and displayed it through this google analytics snapshot.

Trakin October Traffic

October Traffic

And here is the statcounter code for that will cross verify the statistics !

Trak.in Statcounter October statistics

I think this should be enough for Mr. Raj to rethink the allegation (If not, I will also provide google adsense impressions report !). I would whole heartedly request the readers to let me know incase of any doubts they may have about statistics or anything else about this blog.

Honestly, I do not mind to showing just 100 real readers rather than falsely ballooning the numbers !

Mr. Raj, if you go as far as looking at code and searching for urchin, you surely have a blog /site, but while making the comment you have chosen not to reveal your identity. This seriously creates doubt in my mind of you are in reality!

If you have any further doubts, please comment or mail me in private and I will clarify it till you are satisfied.

I really did not want to start my first post from India in this way, but this is something I could not get over until I clarified.

Edit: Pluggd.in blog author – Ashish too concurs that statistics are inflated, so I am going to show another stat from my adsense account…just for heck of it…

Adsense impressions

There are my webhost stats too…Anyone wants that :) I am enjoying this !!!

Now we are really seeing Web 2.0 where people comment and give their ideas about any blog post they have read on their own blogs… Google Blogsearch and Technorati are good places to track your blog and its reactions… Techmeme is the big brother though, but we are still pretty small to feaure there I guess!!

And as far as the stats go, I’ve been reading great content on your blog and Im sure many other people love your posts and your blog. I always thought you get atleast 3000 visits/day, but ur figures showed lesser. So I think you could be alleged of reducing the numbers instead of bloating :P

Thanks Saptarshi…you are right…In this age of Web2.0, nothing is hidden…I have mentioned this couple of times in my posts earlier….every reaction to your writings can be tracked easily…thats how I came to know about this comment.
I have a google alert on “trak.in”, so whenever that is mentioned I get an alert instateneously…

About the comment…The figures are what they are….I see no reason why I need to inflate it….There are 2 things that make me doubt this whole thing..
one is Mr. Raj not giving his his details and biggest of all, pluggd.in author backing it up…
If you see, I actually have pluggd.in in my blogroll links section, because I really thought that author made genuine attempt at analysing things…but I guess I was wrong…

Dear Sir,

Pls ignore the people like Mr Raj. There are people in the world who always tend to act smart. The statistics is not the matter. Our viewers has increased considerably is the message. It is unfortunate that such knowledged people go beyond the expected support to the system.

We are getting really useful informations.

Keep it up.

Regards,
