This is a follow-up list to the earlier post that I had published today on Top Government Engineering colleges in India.
Outlook magazine has recently come up with the updated rankings of top 50 Engineering colleges. As you know Top lists are my favorite and I had earlier published top 100 engineering colleges of 2006. This year Outlook has published two different lists – One Government and One private – unlike a mixed one like last time.
The methodology for rankings remain the same like last time. Here are the meaning of abbreviations.
- IC: Intellectual Capital
- PS: Pedagogic systems (the art or science of teaching; instructional methods)
- II: Industry Interface
- P: Placements
- IF: Infrastructure and Facilities
- T: Total
In this list see the difference between No. 1 and No.2 college. Undoubtedly, BITS Pilani is the best Private Engineering college in India.
If you compare the Top 50 Government engineering college list, BITS Pilani will be the only private college that would have figured in top 10 based on the marks it received.

I cannot believe is thats true that the bbd luck. can be here i don’t think thats it is right to put here so high i don’t feel it has that much facilities to teach my frnd studying there he is saying ” i cannot diffrentiate between teachers and workers “!!!
Hmm..Manipal placed ahead of RV! Difficult to digest that. RV is the most preferred private engg college in Karnataka…am not saying that as I am an ex-student. :)
I just do not know why BHILAI TECHNICAL INSTITUTE, DURG is nowhere in the list.
In Chattisgarh state, this college is preferred to NIT, Raipur.
If NIT, Raipur is placed in All India list anywhere, this college(BIT,Durg)should be at the least 1 rank ahead of NIT,Raipur.
I am Not able to understand that Y Jaypee institute of information technology University – Noida being considered over here as it is the best Private college in NCR.
I think BMS COllege of Engineering in Bangalore is better than RV. During my times all the rank holders were from BMS. I am not sure why RV is ranked so high!

srm deserves much better…the reason behind this very simple aswell illogical that when ssn -chennai is at 9th then why not srm at top…..
PSG College of Technology,Coimbatore-4 is the best engineering college in India with a huge Brand name as equivalent to IIT’s.. It is a Pioneer institute for Mechanical engineering with a Premier industry within the college campus. Placement record says its one among the best in Top five Colleges in the country..PSG Tech Alumni offices are spread across the globe ensures the strong brand name..
VIT,BIT Mesra cannot be compared to PSG tech in any sense…If its BITS Pilani s for North India, then its PSG Tech for South India…

ha u have rated vellore at best 10 and ssn also included ….. guys u should check out properly… SRM institute is a far better place than both… hw many national events has ssn won so far… srm any time has got more awards than ssn… and vit… sem campus life is far better than the one in vit…we have got bettr placements than them too… look at he standards of teaching in vit…. its nt at all par with SRM… guys hold ur horses and give a pat to SRM for it has really improved its standards in the past few years….

Why are we busy in ratings game as we all aware that none of so called hi rated pvt engg colleges show the fee details on their site . No of colleges are interested to show buildings , forign connections etc to hike the fees.In real sense they have no of half herated and inexperience teaching stalf.After all education is a money game just like cricket.Please go any college which is suited to You if you failled to get a sit in IIT, NIT, BITS or in old State engg collegs situated in major cities.
It is extremely depressing to note that the standard of English exibited by most of our young friends in persuit of a career in Engineering is awfully pathetic, to say the least.A certain level of competence in language is generally expected of one who is thinking of entering college irrespective of whether it is a technical course or otherwise. Please do not take it personally. I am not a student, just an old man who was passing by. May you all prosper in life.

the above rankings are well beyond satisfactory….its one of the most accurate rankings published…however as time passes nothing remains the same…with many new /old colleges gaining rapid reputation…its very difficult to predict the correct rankings..

Those who have any problem with VIT, Vellore being above SRM, PSG and such other private institutes, plz go and check out the India Today rankings of this yr (2008, June) and u ll find VIT in the top 10 (ranked with govt institutes) and voted as the best private institute in the country (Pilani did’nt particaipate it seems). Once u visit the campus & ve a look at the infrastucture and facilities provided and once u sit for their entrance exam (which is real difficult to clear due the number of people appearing for the exam) and once u r placed in a top company on campus(of the likes of lucent, alcatel, accenture, verizon, IBM, oracle or microsoft), may be then u ll appreciate its ranking here….

I am 2002 passout (Mech Engg) from Sardar Patel College of Engineering(S.P.C.E) MumbaiĂ‚Â and am currently working in Department of Atomic Energy (Nuclear Power Corporation). S.P.C.E is one of the oldest engineering college in Maharashtra which is aided by Government of Maharashtra. The unaided branches (Electronics and IT) was started somewhere in 1998. I fail to understand why it has not been listed in government colleges catagory because even colleges like Jadavpur University (Kolkata) are government aided and not pure government, Bengal engineering college Shibpur has some of it’s branches self financed like S.P.C.E.
It is thereby a sincere request to the owners of this site to kindly look into this matter seriously

Sathyabama University is better than that of SRM University.
Its placement is same as that of SRM.
Its fee is quite less than SRM,its hostel is for 22000/- p.a.
And finally its teaching is better than SRM & VIT.
Its a very disciplined college.
It should be at least one rank ahead than SRM.Ă‚Â
your lists ( both govt. and pvt coll) do not include colleges like
LNMIIT jaipur – admn upto EEE rank 10k and better than many NITs as well.
JP noida – good placements
GKV hardwar – admn upto EEE rank 15k and better than many govt colleges of ur list
UIET/CCET Chd- have not been included( better than many on the list)
plz compare my feedback with ur ranking and try to provide a better list
But on the whole these rankings give a fair idea of many other institutions

i am not satisfied your ranking.i am a student of srm and its rank should not be on 19th position.its faculty is not good
every body come to srm by its name only.there is no good facculty in this institute.the college authorities only tell that their facculties are this and that,they are one in all,but the inside is not like that.except B.TECH the other branches are not good.all the facculties teach in tamil only.leave the hostel condition,its condition is worse of all.no proper food,no sufficicient water supply.

yeah What u said is 100% true.. i agree with You.. The faculty of the college and the management is really very good..The college was shifted from saidabad to nadergul in 2000 year and the development was so fast that the colleges which were established in 1997′s and 1998′s were some what advance in a very few things (which are almost not necessary to be among top 100) and lags behind some things(some of which are necessary to be among top colleges).. So the college’s development rate is high.. Since it is in a village which is far from city, many people dont prefer to take the college and will go for MJ , Sri nidhi , vasavi… So the college actually Rocks!! Very Good FAculty and Placements and the facilities are also very Good.

U ve included 2 col 4rom north karnataka n to my surprise BVB-Hubli is not been mentioned beside being the best col in north karnataka n one of the oldest in karnataka. i think the list given need some correction.according to me the best engg. college is one where faculty is good, study is excellent, placement is excellent and above all the environment should be good for personal improvement,career building etc.

There are some people who have got critical comments about VIT(Vellore).But what I feel is VIT has got a perfect place in the rankings and it should always be in the top 10. People even from IITs have a view that VIT has got the best infrastructure in INDIA even when compared to the IITs. The placements records are nearly 100%. A lot of developmental activites along with the projects of DRDO run here… VIT ROCKS!!!! Reading the thread of comments, it appears to me as if people have posted with blind fanaticism for their own college. College rankings are always an issue of contention with every magazine releasing their version every year. Instead of arguing over redundant 2007 rankings and vouching for one’s college, the proper method would be to look for NAAC ratings. Starting this year the National Academic Accredition Council has started evaluating colleges (like cgpa). This system will be carried out in all accredited colleges and colleges will be re-evaluated every 5 yrs. I know for a fact that this year BITS-Pilani topped the university rankings with a score of 3.71(Note that university is different from a college).
I believe this thread is supposed to be some indication to parents and prospective students about their future college, and the comments aren’t doing a great job of it. My only inputs on this issue will be ” It is better to be a good student in an average college than an average student in a good one”. Please don’t be misled by placement statistics. The one company that hires 739 people may not come for recruitment next time. And also go for the dept you like than blindly taking up CS/ECE.

sona college of technology salem has been ranked 43rd among the top engineering colleges in india? i dont know who’s responsible for this ranking…. its not supposed to be in the list at all man…. for placements its given 206 points, but less than 1/4 of the students were placed in campus interview from that col… there’s some misunderstanding for sure regarding the ranking of sona college of technology.

student opt for jss because it is one of the good college and it is in very well connected to delhi and ncr and it is not in the place like other greater noida college in knowledge park sourrounded by forest and villages
dat rank which you are referring changes every semester( i mean the students performance rank) . Look placement companies just see your performance in scoresheet, they look for value addition. Ass a commulative rank JSS does stand among top institutes.

It is full of bullshit….Look i passed from JSS Noida in 2010 EC stream….Got placed in two companies L&T, Infosys. I have joined L&T & find a lot of people from different colleges from Mysore, Bangalore, Noida ,Delhi etc….
I can’t believe my college is not even in top 50. Damn’d!! What do you want from a college??
Placements-40 companies visited my college(approx) with an average package of 21000Rs in hand. Max was 6.6LPA(for MECH DEPT)..
Environment-Dude its in noida not in any village so obviously you are getting a city life & exposure that will develop you for sure. & crowd is also pretty cool if you are not comparing it with any college shown in Hollywood movies or series.
Faculty-they are fuckin blood suckers. But trust me after coming in L&T i getto know all that was for my own good……
Basic Amenities- Not so good if you ask me.. since i was a day scholar i must say it could have been better…But most colleges are deprived of that also.
Library-That’s the coolest thing they have better than even few IIT’s(though who wanna spend time in there..:)) ….
Education-I know it’s UPTU but trust me it’s not easy to clear it….UPTU sucks because the crowd in most colleges sucks..They read local writers during semesters to clear the exam only rather than gaining any knowledge…But my faculty pushed us to go for foreign writers..If you really wanna be an engineer!!!! & i don’t see any reason now that whether it really matter to pursue for IIT or NIT or a private college….If you read books thoroughly you are better than most IITians….& please don’t if you ask coz that would time you will miss in life not your big books & sucking life….If you ask me Big colleges offer big packages…its up to you whether you want to make more money live less life OR make less money & live more life…Totally up to you…..
well..out of all the uptu colleges, they have marked bbd and galgotia!
this is impossible..jss,kiet and akgec are way better private colleges then these two!

Out of all the colleges discussed above, “Shri ramswaroop college of engg and mgmt” srmcem of Lucknow is by far the most pathetic and unsustainable place to study or groom yourself.Now when i say groom, i mean that this place is a toilet where u can’t do any other thing other than take a leak.
Lets just have a glance of its salient features-
Awful infra
sham management
Limited placements
Faulty faculty(obnoxious in fact)
zero project support
and i can count on and on.
The director owns two luxury suv’s- a porsche and a mercedes , a benz, an audi, an accord, and more in the inventry but spends the least on developing its infra.(ok they improvised the library and implemented an ERP a bit).All they can best do is ravish you with your money and your precious 4 years.
So please if any one of you plans to study in lucknow circle, omit srmcem from your options. BBD is relatively a heaven for God’s sake.Even amity has significantly improved from the past.

try the colleges in ncr if you can get.I can only name IET in lucknow to be the best among all.
chitkara university is also in top 20 universities as it is a primier institute having great placement records………………………

hey..I’m a student of Babu Banarasi Das ,Lucknow….n I agree BBD should not have been there because no matter how good their placements are, the faculty sucks ass…
