Maruti has introduced Alto Xplore range of goodies as Diwali offer for the buyers of Alto Lxi and superior quality Alto K10-Vxi model. Interestingly, this limited edition offer comes just ahead of the next-generation Hyundai Eon’s launch.
Maruti Alto’s closest competitor Eon is priced at Rs.269999 for its base model D-Lite at ex-showroom Delhi, with spacious and futuristic looks. However, the 814cc Eon’s pricing can not be compared with new Alto K10 model with a more powerful 998cc engine.
Entry-level segment leader Alto K10 is an advanced version with new-generation three-cylinder engine, which provides a maximum torque of 90 Nm at 3500 rpm and provides power of 68 PS at 6200 rpm.
Moreover, in order to boost its prospects against a more spacious and stylish Hyundai Eon, Maruti has launched Alto Xplore models, which would be available in 6 colors, comprising of frills such as double-din stereo with USB and Bluetooth, plush leather seats, new body graphics, body color bumpers, ORVMs, door handles and Roof Spoiler.
So, do these 10-odd frills come at free of cost in Maruti Alto models? Actually, they should be coming at no extra cost under promotional offer. As far as I gather, the company’s list price also remains unchanged. But, when I contacted a couple of Maruti dealers, they indicated that the goodies will come against the dealer discounts that they provided to the customers to push the vehicle sales.
Moreover, dealers claim that the Xplore range of frills are valued at around Rs.30000, while customers can benefit from them by simply sacrificing the trade discount of Rs.25000; thus accruing gain of Rs.5000 on net basis to customers.
In my humble opinion, if you’re going for such optional frills, you’re almost paying for it from your pockets. Rather, go for a no-frill car; you anyways don’t need to have such top-end features in your entry-level segment car.
