Two people were executed Tuesday in China in connection with widespread milk contamination that made thousands ill in the country last year. Beijing, China (WiredPRNews.com) Two men have been executed in China due to their roles in a milk contamination scandal last year that affected hundreds of thousands of families. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Zhang Yujun and Geng Jinping were executed Tuesday, after allegedly mixing melamine, a chemical used for industrial purposes, with milk powder for monetary gain. As noted in the report, Yujun, a dairy farmer, was charged with endangering public safety and Jinping was executed for the production and sale of toxic food. Several other executives of the now non-operational Sanlu Group Co. have been given jail sentences for the 2008 scandal in which over 300,000 children became ill after consuming contaminated milk products. At least six children died as a result of the contamination.
