Researchers are testing out a new experiment to see if PTSD risk factor predictions can be made. California (WiredPRNews.com) A military experiment has been put into place to test the possibility of predicting risk factors for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the study seeks to better assess possible triggers for the crippling condition that is believed to affect one of every five veterans who return home from combat in Iraq and Afghanistan. As noted by the AP, possible risk factors have been found, but there is yet to be a definitive set of predictors. Paula Schnurr, with the Department of Veterans Affairs National Center for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, is quoted in the report as stating of the matter, Right now, we can’t determine with certainty who will and who won’t develop PTSD Perhaps with better measures, we can get closer.
