New Discount Drug Program Benefits the Growing Unemployed
MedSaverCard, a free program providing discounts on prescription drugs for people without health insurance, wants the growing number of unemployed workers to know they have options when it comes to buying prescription drugs.

Orange, CA November 23, 2009 — MedSaverCard, a free program providing discounts on prescription drugs for people without health insurance, wants the growing number of unemployed workers to know they have options when it comes to buying prescription drugs.
MedSaverCard.com owner Justin Palmer explains, “Although employer-based health coverage may have expired, paying full price at the pharmacy isn’t the only option. Our cardholders are often shocked to learn that their prescription drugs can cost up to 80% less using MedSaverCard. Many people assume there is some type of catch to a program like this, but there isn’t. All you do is print the card from the website, and bring it your pharmacy, that’s it.”
Discount drug cards work by negotiating bulk discounts with pharmaceutical companies. By leveraging the size of their cardholder base, these programs can negotiate large discounts on commonly used prescription drugs. Discounts are highest when used on generic drugs, but brand name ones qualify as well. Cards can be used by the uninsured, medicare recipients in the “doughnut-hole” of coverage, or by anyone whose health plan doesn’t cover the cost of a specific drug. These programs are not insurance, but they can provide significant savings.
Palmer concludes, “During the stressful time of job searching, the last thing someone wants to worry about is being able pay their pharmacy bill. We hope MedSaverCard brings some relief to the jobless during this difficult time. It’s one less thing to worry about.”
