Milligan joined Hitachi GST as chief financial officer in September 2007 and was appointed president earlier this year.
Hiroaki Nakanishi will remain as chairman of Hitachi GST. He continues to serve as a Hitachi executive vice president, responsible for Hitachi Groups global strategy.
Milligan previously served as senior vice president and CFO for Western Digital.
Hitachi Global Storage Technologies develops advanced hard disk drives, solid state drives, and external storage solutions and services used to store, preserve and manage data.
